Montana Snowkite Rodeo recap and results

The 2nd annual Montana Snowkite Rodeo
2/18 – 21 2005

Over fifty snowkiters from West of the Rockies, Minnesota, Hawaii, and Canada showed up to Georgetown Lake for three days of great riding, competition, demos, live bands and partying Montana style. Once again, the highlight of the Rodeo was Kiter Cross racing with heats of four riders racing side by side around a gated course with stacked hay barrels to jump over (and hopefully you clear them). Kiter Cross was invented last year at the Rodeo and since then it has been a format used worldwide including stops on the PKRA tour and the Gorge Games. It looks like Kiter Cross is here to stay. Thanks to PASA’s Christopher and Claudia Nygard, over 100 new future snowkiters got to fly trainer kites for there first time over the weekend in the free intro to snowkiting clinic. Keith Kallio from Montana Kite Sports, did an awesome job organizing the event, building railslides and arranging media. Mark Doyle from Slingshot stepped up to the plate, pulling off multiple unhooked 360 handle passes over the 30 foot railslside, new school style. Thanks goes out to the Georgetown Lake Lodge for hosting all of us wild and crazy snowkiters. They offered live bands every night, Richard Hallman’s New Zealand Snowkite slide and more than there fair share of free jello shots to competitors. If you haven’t been to The Lodge, make sure get there. It’s America’s best bet for snow, wind, and access right out the door.

Thanks to all of you who joined us in Montana, and we’ll see you next year.

Speaking of Richard Hallman, he is in Jackson Hole right now, and after a day of riding on Sunday up at Togwotee, (at the spot where the first day of the SKS comp was last year) he put on a slide show of the New Zealand trip over margaritas for some of the local crew.

I gotta say, Aaron, that was some sick shit. You guys had an epic location, and the pictures were beautiful. I especially loved the shots of you guys suspended above a green valley. Super nice.

Anyway, catch you @ OSKM skyline.

aloha
