broken line when high snow jumping

Postby clydesdale » Wed Mar 16, 2005 8:13 pm

has anyone had a line break while doing one of those super high snow jumps? seems risk/reward on snow vs water way too high for those type of jumps

I had a line break on my 2 line foil doing maybe a 10-15 ft. jump over a frozen lake. It wasn't too bad of a fall because the kite still slowed me down a little plus there was some snow so I didn't get hurt.

Those guys riding in the mountians are doing something completely different. I have heard (so this is just rumor) that they pre-flight check their kites the same way a paraglider would and also some guys double-up the flying lines.

At Skyline this weekend, Chasta shared with us that he changes all his lines every week, and pre-flights them carefully EVERY DAY. I stood in awe watching him huck HUGE in light wind on the big ridge there...glad he's changing his lines.

I've been flying paragliders for almost ten years and I check all my lines every time I launch while I set up. If you're jumping big, I suggest the same, as well as your harness...
