We are "stuck" down here in West Yellowstone with a raging blizzard outside our door. Yesterday we kited the Corrals and the Bear at Henry's Lake Flats. Before the blizzard hit, three feet of new snow came down on the ground without a breath of wind! Then it started to blow! Amazing conditions - I flew my 12 and Jeff flew his 10 meter kites just to keep moving in the deep, deep snow. While we were out there, the hwy closed so there was no traffic. At dark we snuck out the closure gate and spent the night here in West. Road closures all over eastern Idaho. I'm loving it!
It's dumped all night with howling winds. Raynolds Pass just hit 50mph on a gust! I'm glad I brought my 7m kite.
It's off to kite some new spots near Yellowstone Park this a.m.

Yeah "Noaa". That system reads like a horror movie here in the land of couches and turkeys. I was getting heart tremors just looking at the screen. Who else would be out there right in the thickest baddest piece of it? Might have to let you pack it down for a few days. You wont even be able to leave a track for more than a few minutes by the look of it. Must be some crazy storm winds, you better be carefull out there. It's gonna be a long winter so stay in one piece to get the entire season. Could be a clearing wind out here on the coast from the tail of your terror storm, if it gets in before dark we might get a slash or two....

Wow. What a day of storm kiting. Once again I flew my 12 and Jeff his 10. We had deep snow, nuking south blizzard winds and warm temps (25F). It was amazing kiting. We plowed 2 foot deep trenches with our super-fat skis everywhere we went. These rapidly filled in with new snow. Boosting on the gusts was sick. The feel of the incredibly soft and deep landings was addicting.
Earlier, we had been watching the various weather stations around the region and knew we had a couple hours before the winds switched, went Richter and temps plummeted to sub-zero. Sure enough, as we finished our session along the western boundary of Yellowstone Park the winds tripled in strength. I was almost to the point of making it to the truck when a wall of white engulfed me. I found a safe zone downwind, pulled the hat, wrapped it all up and made the slow slog back to the warmth of the truck . Now that I’m back in Bozeman I can relax, enjoy the glow and plan for tomorrow – another day of kiting awaits...
See ya out there,
Noah

You always get all the snow on that side. We're getting very little snow, strong, gusty winds and very cold temps.
Thanks for the stoke!

Don't be jealous Windgumby, You already got YOUR snow! First year in a few that we didn't make the preseason trip to the Bigeez. But also first year in a few that Skyline got early snow again. We'll ride with you soon enough I'm sure... have sled, will travel. I bet you get hit tomorrow, this is a slow moving storm.... only minutes ago did the Island Park Storm Front move into our neighborhood down here. Windzup, Brian Schenck www.FlyOzoneUSA.com
