Maybe someday we can cover Mt. Wrangell with kite tracks. For now I just fly by and dream.

From yesterday flying by. Looking NNW. The SW slopes are in profile.
Climbers on Mt. Sanford last week (just to the north and a bit higher) reported deep powder.
The first photo in the first post was from last year in May. This seems like a good launch spot. It's a flatish plateau at 5-6000 ft. A 16 mile flight from Chitina with Ultima Thule or 40 miles from Gulkana with Copper Valley Air. (Fairly cheap flights with a wheel/ski plane.) This plateau in itself looks like great kiting terrain but it leads NE to the mellow angled and mostly crevasse free southwest slopes of Wrangell. The summit caldera is about 20 miles from this point.
It could be possible to snowmobile across the Copper River and up the Cheshnina or Chetaslina Rivers early in the year.
Figuring out weather windows and reliable wind will be the crux. I don't think it's a particularly windy place.
