Back in the Sinks

Postby rvrrat » Fri Dec 31, 2010 6:47 am

 I got back in the Sinks of Gandy on Tues. Really been a dream of mine since I snowkited my first time 5 years ago. I knew this place has the best terrain around the central Appalachians. Hell, the only place I have seen cornices this big in the east is in Tuckerman's Ravine and you can't kite in there. I know, I tried! I started on my 9m Frenzy and ended up on my 13m. After playing around on the big cornice I cruised over into the large fields where the wind started to die. Then 2 F-18 Hornets came out of the east and buzzed me and my kite 100 feet off the deck. Its like they cut the air and turned the wind on. OH YEAH. Then I cruised back to the big cornice and dropped it again. There are several large drifts to play on here. Had my kite up for 5 hours and covered 10-15 miles. We got rain today. Its over for a while. Cold air back on Sun. JR

Nice JR. The Sinks of Gandy look like a great spot. Sweet cornice wave and snow coverage.
Looking forward to seeing the big green truck in a Snowkite parking lot soon.

Brian Schenck
