OK, I was hoping for ice, for speed. Thanks for the web cam.

Also, how are the roads up there? How well are they kept clear? All I have to get there with is a Honda Fit, but a friend of mine has a pickup. I may drive up there with him.

it really depends on the wind pattern , if its SW the snow stays north & oneida stays firm ice.... the roads are fine , they have no problem clearing them after the snow , but if your out driving in a lake effect event nothing works to well .

So I met with event organzers Jan and Jackie, and Cesar from up Jan's way, and Bob Diehl from Lewis County and also the two landowners on site #6, just added to the riding sites on the hill, Saturday to try to get a session in as the snow was melting. :x This new site is about 1100 acres of rolling hayfields with wind towers, woodlots, hedgerows, some fencelines, and other features you might expect to find on farmland. We lost quite a bit of snow due to the warmth on Saturday, but it has been below freezing all day today with a light snow here in the valley this morning. The coming week will tell all, and I will post conditions as the week progresses.

A question about parking and protocol.

Is parking at all of the sites on the road? I know we are guests on the land being used, mostly farms from what I can see on maps.google.com. We don't park on the driveway of, say, that farm house I see at the Deer River Ranch.

Hello everyone, the countdown is on!

Parking: Last year, the hottest sites had parking on the sides of the street. We roll deep, and their will be a TON of cars. As far as the roads are concerned, they throw salt down like it's going out of style. If we get slammed with a big storm like we did last year, the roads get messy, but upstate NY is great at keeping them clear.

Snow conditions: I find the most accurate webcam for weather is: http://www.northernchateau.com/webcam.html I especially like the sophisticated snow depth meter...

Although we lost snow, this past weekends warmup will do well to pack down a good base, and we should get more during the week. Hopefully it stays below freezing and the lake effect machine starts cranking again!

See you all there!

Cheers!

Joe

Newest report,

MUCH COLDER AIR WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION FRIDAY...AND SHOULD
TRIGGER THE DEVELOPMENT OF POTENTIALLY SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT
SNOW DOWNWIND OF LAKE ONTARIO. WHILE IT REMAINS DIFFICULT TO
PINPOINT THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE LAKE SNOWS THIS FAR IN
ADVANCE...EARLY INDICATIONS SUGGEST THE POTENTIAL FOR THE LAKE
SNOWS TO DEVELOP OVER OR NORTH OF THE WATERTOWN AREA ON
FRIDAY...BEFORE SHIFTING SOUTH TO THE TUG HILL REGION FRIDAY
NIGHT.

Also will be checking in with Jan and Bob shortly this afternoon hoping for their input but the lake effect is unreal up there so one 24 period of snow will be enough to get this going.

In terms of places to stay check out the website,

http://tughillsnowkiting.com/rally

However this place is part of the bar/restaurent we are holding the event party at on saturday night so might not be a bad option if you do not have enough people to rent a house,

Also if you havent checked facebook or the website recently there is online pre-registration available. For registering in advance you will receive an extra raffle ticket. IT will also allow us to put you on a update list if the go to site/registration location changes last minute.

Okay so word is this. Conditions right now are tough not a lot of snow most of what they had melted. However the storm warning I posted above is only getting better and there is a good chance the area will get dumped on thurs/fri/saturday.

Everything is still moving forward and we will keep looking at the conditions. The Face book group will update conditions daily.

There is also some crazy talk of kiting on the water at pt judith.
