:snow: Lake Dillon froze over today. Not saying it's safe, but we're about a week earlier than norm. I usually let the ice-boaters test the ice first.

Where do you guys snowkite out there other than the Lake Dillon area?

I'm likely heading out for some snowboarding after New Years, and would love to bring some kites if there are some rolling terrain options near Summit County.

Thanks!

no hiking --> Vail pass, Loveland pass - you can find some good wind up there almost every day...

But you can fly everywhere above treeline :) tenmile range,... and it's great down there around mt Democrat and Kite lake (better for spring when u can drive all the way up :) )

BTW Steamboat lake looks ready to go if somebody is around:)

Great tip, thanks.
Is there a good forum to find out where folks are likely to be on the passes if there is wind?

***Spoiler Alert*** The main body of Lake Dillon is open water again. Don't rush up here to the Summit for your snowkite fix just yet Gene.

Rabbit Ears Pass is looking really good though.

Ah Ha Rick... just logged in here and thanks fer da scoop. :-)
Just walked in from a couple hours in the buggy over at the local soccer fields, East of town, on the new 2014 7m Frenzy I just bought. That thang handles gust pretty darn good I might say.
A week ago Sunday, the girl and I slipped up the Poudre Canyon to get a look at Chambers Lake, Bames Meadow Res, and Joe Wright Res to see if anythang was worth launching a kite for, and nothing! Wind-blown ice @ all three watering holes. And... all pretty much in a valley with LOTS-o-trees everywhere. Oh well, enjoyed the Blue Lake Trail on skis the rest of the day.
I've been watching Anton's tweets on lake condition as well.
See ya out there soon man.
Cheers!

Don't know about any forum for summit county :( Just check with some local guys here I guess... or at least some twwets here: http://coloradokiteforce.com/home/index.php

Rabbit Ears is good but it doesn't work everytime :( Only big open spots are around east summit but wind is from West most of the time and it's blocked with trees from that side... South wind works pretty good. I wish there were no trees on rabbit ears, then it'd be another Skyline :D :D :D
