New Kiteboarder

Postby brettbrew » Thu Jul 11, 2013 6:17 pm

Hey, I'm new to kiteboarding and live in buffalo so snow-kiting makes a lot of sense considering our considerable amount of snowy weather. Just wondering how large of a kite do I need? (I'm 155 lbs and the winds in my area range from 10-20mph)

Same weight. Same name... But I used my 11m crossbow with a plain ol snowboard I got for cheap from very little wind to ~20 knots. 20 knots was almost scary though. Depends on how much the wind speed varies around you. Mostly low wind, I'd say 11m. Mostly higher wind I'd go for a 9m. That's for inflatable kites...

Not 100% sure about foils but maybe a 7-9m foil kite.

How much snow are you riding in?

Also MAKE SURE you take a lesson if you've never flown a traction kite before.
