How many snowkiters are in North America?

Postby knewschool » Sun Nov 24, 2013 11:32 pm

To me this is seemingly an impossible question since there became so many manufacturers involved, but does anyone out there have a credible number or any reasonable guesses to how many snowkiters there are in North America?

What's going on here, is that because there's no way to tell how many kites get used on snow, the kitesurifng industry will keep sweeping snowkiting under the rug. We will keep working harder for less support. So if anyone has any brilliant ideas on how to come up with a credible number that would be great. 42 is a bad guess, as I know more than 42 right of the top of my head, funny though.

No 42 is the answer and hardly a guess!

Knowing the answer is strangely unsatisfying, yet I'm quite sure that 42 is the correct answer.

Very hard to say,
With some kiters only snowkiting a few times a year
to the 100 days a winter, hard core riders.
There could possibly be, almost 100 in Utah.
Very hard question to answer correctly, just a wild guess.

Really depends on how you define it. If you define active snow kiters as people that snow kite more than 1 time / year, I'm guessing throughout N. America there are fewer than 5,000, more likely closer to 3,000.

There are around 200 in S. Ontario. I've seen 30 kites in the sky at my local spot N. of Toronto. The biggest snow kiting festival in S. Ontario brings in about 50 or so riders each year.

I rode at Lac Tremblant at the base of Mt. Tremblant, in Quebec last March with 12 kites in the sky. It was way better riding on a flat corn-snow covered lake than waiting in a lift line.

In Ontario, there are a lot of kite surfers that get upset if the snow conditions aren't perfect. Most would rather put on a dry-suit and ride in 0 degree water than on crappy ice conditions, I have to agree.

42 isn't so far off...
