How to measure/size a Ozone frenzy fx kite? No markings?

Postby Snapcut » Fri Mar 06, 2015 5:31 am

Hi there, can someone please help me figure this out????? I have no idea how to measure my orange, white and black Ozone frenzy fx...for some strange reason I cannot find a single measurement on the kite bag or anywhere...I think it's an 2008 and my guess is at least 9meters, but the guy selling it to me said 12meters (I don't think so) it's about as long as my 1/2 tone truck though...it's almost embarrassing to ask...i'll try and attach a link to a picture below (that's what it looks like, but it's not actually my kite)

Thanks

Length. X Width = Area

Measure the length and width and multiply it. You will get the approximate surface area of the kite.

+1 for the above comment. I've got an 11m frenzy measuring 20' (6.1m) X 6' (1.8m) =11m. Grab a tape and measure your wing!

Sorry boys. Unless your kite is a rectangle your measurement will be incorrect. Oversized.

Calculating and ellipse surface area is closest.

(22/7) x (width/2) x (length/2)

PS find the part number written on the kite. That shows the year and the size in the part number.

From the pic you linked it's an 08' or later kite when their sizing convention switched to odd 7,9,11,13m for Frenzy from then 'til present. The 05'-07' years went 7.5,10,12,14m.

The LxW area formula should be accurate enough to screen out which one. They used to attach a white piece of canopy material to the backpack with serial number and identifiers as to kite size and type, of course the original owner probably removed it.

One option to estimate kite size is to use Partometer3d app.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rtometer3d

Take a photo of your kite with some known dimensions (A3-A4, letter, envelope, newspaper etc) and load it to app and estimate kite's area.

sweet app joriws! I didnt pay the $3 for that app but are you sure it can measure area and not just length and width?

only way to know for sure is measure it. You can chalk out squares lay the kite on the squares and count how many it covers or use some app and a photo. I've done it before with photoshop, you can draw grid lines in photoshop and do some 3d manipulation.

The last time I measured my kites I noticed that manufacturers lie about the size it's going to be up to 1 meter smaller or larger than the real size, so if it's an 11m kite it could measure anywhere from 10 meters up to 12 meters. I'm not sure the formula will get you the right size because you get +/- 1 meter from the estimate of the area from the formula then you get the additional +/- 1 meter because the kites are never exactly the printed size so thanks to the errors, you can end up classifying a 9 meter kite as an 11. I would actually measure.
