Foilkite, which one to choose?

Postby Mad_dan » Mon Nov 07, 2016 8:36 pm

Hello

Im considering buying a foilkite for winter use. From before i have core xr4 ang gts3 kites.
Can you guys please help me narrow it down for me :-)

My prioritys:
- Light bar pressure, the lighter the better. (underarm issues)
- smooth light landings. (knee issues)
- hangtime
- big air.
- wind range (only planing for one size)

My weight 84kg, planing to go for a 12m2.Thinking of a typical allrounder like the Ozone frenzy or Flysurfer speed for example.

Thanks

I'm 85kg. Love my aurora2 15m. BAR pressure isn't bad at all and I have really bad tennis elbow in both arms.
Use it on water from 12 kts up to 20kts. Lower on land.

Bar pressure of the Aurora is very low, like a speed s4 i would say , maybe even lower. Not sure it will have the best wind range however. Hang time is very good.

Thanks guys, so the speed also has low bar pressure. Anyone that can compare the bar pressure to for ex. core gts3.

Would be nice to put theese models on a scale regarding bar pressure: Ozone frenzy, summit, FS speed 4-5, HQ Montana, Matrix, Pansh Aurora 2

Any foil will be way less than any inflatable assuming you use a normal bar setup (i.e. not a pulley bar).

I have found my Elf has the lightest bar pressure of any kite I've flown, followed by an R1V2, followed by flysurfer sonic2.

In my own experience, the HQ Montana IX and Matrixx kites have lower bar pressure than the Frenzy V10. Lift and hangtime are great on the Montana 9

One kite you may keep on your radar is the HQ Matrixx III arriving here in the US around Thanksgiving. Key features of the Matrixx have always been lift and hangtime, as well as being very user-friendly. Always been a lot of kite for the money; I hear the new 12m boosts to the moon. Size-for-size, they're going to be priced about the same as the Ozone Summit, with the added benefit of being usable on water. $400 - $800 cheaper than a comparable Speed 5 or Chrono V2.

I should be getting the 12, 15 and possibly 18m here for demo by early December if anyone is in the CO area and would like to try them out. Hopefully some snow will arrive by then too!
