I know about kitesurfing, but didn't try it on the snow yet.
I don't want to use my tubes and a friend of mine told me to use a foil.
I have no idea of the winds, since I never tried it in the mountains. But the friend uses a foil with app. 5 sqm. He said that I don't need as big as on water.

Hello friend...
I live in Colorado.. I am new to the sport myself.. I know about 10 locals that learnd and progressed from the foil's. They all sware on the tube kites, and would not go back to foil's. Coastal shops say the bladders kites have problems with the cold... My friends say they flown in 10degrees with a 15-20below wind chill..The hardest part w/ tubes is simply blowing them up and w/ cold hands closing the fill plugs. They also say crashed kites hard and no problems.. NOW im sure there is pro's and con's to this. However my friends all say tubes...
The relaunch on snow can be easy w/ the addition of a 5th line, or depending on wich kite you have now.Yes there is much less drag on snow so you wouldnt need a huge kite but changes w/ the wind conditions.
Take a look at are local web sight. http://www.KITESNOWBOARD.com
There is a section on relaunching and how to set it up etc.. Depending on the wind conditions, they all have diff size tubes for the winds. So poss save yourself some $$$$ this trip and take the tubes..
Again just new too this but take a look at the web sight.. I dont think my advise would be bad..!

well ... it depends on the wind and the snow ..

but in general, it's better to use a kite that was made for land-use.

you can use your tubekites for sure - i used mine on water with about -5°C air temp and 2°C water temp and nothing happend

I can recommend you the indestructable NPW5 or, even better, the new NPW9, these kites are cheap and have a lot of pull. Take a look at http://www.npw5.com
