Kinsley Wong dumps on 3rd Ave

Postby CosmoDog » Wed Jun 18, 2003 5:40 am

Kinsley Wong shows up at 3rd Ave two days ago and launchs
from the windsurfing launch. Locals asked him to use the
nearly empty kite beach 50 yards away but "he was only
going to be there a couple of hours". By launching there he has
to cross a bike path with the kite in the air and walk down a
narrow ramp with rocks on either side. One accident involving
a non kiter and theres a chance they (Foster City) will shut it down.
Now maybe Kinsley good enough to get away with it but what about Joe Newbe who imitates him.
I (and other 3rd Ave regulars) will never buy from his shop.
Please respect the common sense advice of the
locals when visiting a new kiting spot.

I'm surprised. Kinsley is a good guy and has been an avid supporter of the sport. Having said that, based on your report, he was WRONG on several accounts and owes the windsurfers and kiters at 3rd ave an APOLOGY!!!!!

respect for local riders is a very important thing!
they know the problems and conditions, no guest should forget about this.
and the guest can go but the locals not.

So everyone: if you are a guest somewhere, make contact to the locals and ask what you can do and what not to avoid problems.

Kinsley is definitely irresponsible for launching by the ramp.
However, who launched him? He most definitely did not do a self launch and therefore the "Helper" is not much better than Kinsley when it gets to responsibility!!!!!!!

You don't want to self-launch there, if you can help it, I've blown about 5. Slid across the mud flats 2x on my ass. Also, 1.5 - 2.5 hour swims are common, depending on how far out you are. I gave a guy a ride back today after and hour&a-half swim.

Petro9: I think he was testing kites and had a helper...

bobbybill: If he was dragged it would be over the 10ft
levee before he hit the water (mud flats in low tide).

Cosmo
I am glad that it was not someone from 3rd helping him out.
Thanks for pointing out this incident, with that kind of irresponsibility I will definitely think twice about purchasing anything from Xtreme big air.
How would Kinsley like it if we went out to his spot in the central California coast and acted irresponsibly there!!!!
Cheers

I guess RW (the enforcer) was not there? As an ex 3rd local, I would hate to see the place shut down.

Go get 'em

Hi J.R.,
This is Kinsley Wong writing from St. Vincent. Apparently you did not who is Kinsley Wong and made many assumptions. I was at Third Avenue on Monday before my trip to St. Vincent here. HOWEVER, I WAS NOT KITING LAST MONDAY. I am glad and appreciate you for pointing out the local rules as I was not awared of any rules that we can't not launch from the windsurfers area. I will make sure to share the information with my friend who rides there. I had three kites that my friend wanted to try out. We pumped the kites and got him out in the water 2 hours before any windsurfers or anyone was setting up. We were told by a kiter there on our third launch that we should not land the kite at the windsurfers area if there are windsurfers setting up, so my friend landed the kite at the beach.
I hope that this message will clear up things. You know I always support and respect the local rules. Cheers and
Thanks again J.R. for letting me know.
