Barcelona

I am flying to Barcelona at the weekend for a friends stag do and I am hoping to get some kiteboarding in.

Is kiting allowed on any of the beaches there?

Is it worth taking kite kit and what size kites do you recommend?

Where is the best place to go, that is a taxi ride from the town center?

Cheers

You'll probably need big kites. Usually not so much wind, weather will be nice 8) . Centre is close to the beach. Subway is perfect means of transport.

Most fantastic city there is in the world!

Have fun!

By the looks of it you will be in luck, forecast is for SW on Saturday which means....spring thermal!! I'm already pumped.

It also means big kite weather, from 14.5 to 18, depends on your weight.

And if forecast lives up to expectations, sleep in on Saturday, and then hit the beach around 13-14:00, depending where you are. It will come and either last 2-3 hours, or all afternoon. Reserve the afternoon for kiting.

I'm in Castelledefels, great place for kiting, 18kms outside of BCN, direct train access from the city with a railway station practically on the beach (20 min trip from city).

Kite on-

Steve

Hi !!

I'm from Barcelona !!!

I'm agree with the guy from Castelldefels, the forecasts are great !!!!
You can kite in Barcelona city. If you use the "sub" you must take yellow line (L3) and leave at the "Barceloneta" subway stop. You 're going to see the beach, you can kite where you want !!!

Normally the thermal wind (SW) starts about 13:00-14:00 till 17:00.

In Castelldefels instead of stop at 17:00, it continuous blowing till 19:00.

When you arrive to the airport, you can take a taxi to the downtown (about 20 Euros) or take the train (3 or 4 euros). The train is fast, secure and cheap !!

Any other info you need, please, do not hesitate to ask or contact me !!

Well, I have not been here in the summer, but apparently, on June 15 there is the summer kiteboard ban in the whole of Catalonia (so they say). Supposed to be in effect until September, word has it you can sneak a session in here and there during very late afternoon, or even at el Prat (beach near the airport, not the cleanest) it may be allowed.

This is why I'll be migrating north (to Holland) on exactly that day!

In July, if you are in Costa Brava, you must go to "Sant Pere Pescador", i s a town, is a huge bay (Roses Bay) and is the better spot in Catalonia.
Thermal wind almost everyday in summer.

There are a lot of campsites and hotels, but the beach is nice, is a desertic beach, no buildings, not crowded even in august !!!

If you need more info, just ask !!

regarding to the ban, this year maybe is not banned anymore, the sail federation is working on it !!!
