16m 2009 LF Session or 15m 2008 Slingshot Rev

Postby mpleasance » Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:26 pm

I am a beginner and have been kiting very sparatically for three years. I can ride both directions pretty well and can generally maintain my ground.

Where I kite in the summers there are lots of 10-15kt days. Currently, my biggest kite is a 2006 14m Waroo. It can get me going, but I have a horrible time re-launching it in lighter winds. So, I am looking to replace it.

The two kites I have been looking at most are:
2009 16m LF Session
2008 15m Slingshot Rev

I understand that they are completely different kites and I'm not necessarily looking for a comparison as input from people that have experience with each kite - specifically the following:

1) How easy is it to deep water relaunch each kite in light winds
2) Realisitcally, what is the low-end for each kite? I'm 180lbs and ride a 150x40cm plywood board in light winds.
3) I'm hoping to progress past the "beginner" stage soon, will I quickly be wishing I had the Rev instead of the Session?

The Rev seems like a pretty good deal at $1200 for a 15m rev and an ignition board, but if the low-end isn't great then it is not what I'm looking for.

Thanks! Any input is appreciated!
