I think what you describe is the take off angle on your board. Which when tilted wrong your board edge catches the water ripping the board off your feet and making you spin a few times. Ive done this many of times.
I think the trick is to leave the surface smoothly and dont iniate the spin before you leave the water. Use your body to do that just after you leave then water.
I mean leave the water smooth and dont twist the board untill you have left the water and just roll forward with you body. once you nail it a few times and no how much you can tweak the board without catching the edge you will get better and and start doing more spins.
I think the key for stopping your spins is timming I mean rotation speed + hangtime but extending your body also slows the spins.

Thats if thats what you where having problems with.
If not practice will improve your problem
