PKRA Austria - Short Report

Postby Toby » Wed Apr 30, 2003 9:41 am

I went to Podersdorf from Friday afternoon to Monday afternoon.

Friday was no wind and Saturday the wind was side off, being very gusty.
But they managed to do the single elimination, but it was about 400m from shore, so we couldn't see much.

In the final Martin Vari won, 2nd was Adam Koch
The women scored like the worldranking 2002: 1. Cindy Mosley, 2. Ingrid Kölbichler

On Sunday the wind was onshore and the action was right in front of the visitors. These guys really rip. Such a big step if I compared it to moves from last year's cup in Austria.

Monday we had side offshore again, and when I left the double elimination started on Sunday was not finished yet, so I don't have results yet.

On Friday and Saturday there were big parties in a big tent next to the worldcup area with several thousand people. Two big color screens showed an old kitemovie from Austria's worldcup (2001) and the other the new kitevideo "Space Monkeys". A really great movie with Jaime Herraiz, Martin Vari, etc. Unbelievable moves at a great location.

Almost all big names of the sport showed up in Podersdorf, here some to mention:
Mark Shinn
Martin Vari
Jaime Herraiz
Adam Koch
Flash Austin
Jeff Tobias
Abel Lago
Andre Philip
Cindy Mosley
Ingird Kölbichler
etc.

It is a great event and we had a lot of fun.
Everyone was relaxed and open for talks.

Here some pictures:

Launching Area

Side offshore winds, so the comp area was far outside

More from the lake, which is shallow all over!

Sometimes a little bit chaos to get your kite started

many kites for different winds, since the winds were up and down the whole day, which made it difficult to choose the right size

Kiteforum Meeting Point. I met some users of the forum and one was also competing: Royce Reid from Puerto Rico! Here I handed out the first kiteforum.com stickers!

Event organizer, worldcup rider and owner of the kiteschool "kitesurfing.at" at Lake Neusiedl Bernie Kudernatsch and his girlfriend and world's number 2: Ingrid Kölbichler

Toby, what about Laurel?
Wasn't she there?
(Did you told her I will not come there, so she delayed?) :naughty:
