5th element with Rhino '04 20

Postby tux » Sat Jul 31, 2004 6:55 pm

I've used the Rhino '04 20mt today with the 5th e set-up in a gusty wind from 8kts to 11 , and I'm very happy with it, the kite has recived more stability from this sistem, now it flyes very wide and opened, and generate lots more power, it is another kite now. On the other hand i suppose this improved low-end could sacrificate some high end since it doesn't close itself under gust, but this is only a suspect by now.
The rotation speed of the kite hasn't improved it is a little slow as before.
I've let it fall 3 times and relanunch, but sincerely in such low wind I've relaunched as I've always done, because you need to let it turn before launch it again and you need some wind for this.
I've simulated a couple of HP on the beach and the 5th E leash work fine for this.
Hope to have more wind in the next days to test it better.

Hi Tux,

I´ve used 5E for weeks on Vegas now and am surprised about parts of your findings on R4 20. As there´s no pull of 5E when kite is powered and additionally tips tend to open less rather than more due to flatter "Y" angle applying, kite should not show any more projected area.
How do you explain your findings though ?

Hi Foxi,
Is not only my impression, everybody saw the shape of the kite turning to an opened profile, I think is what Cabrinha tend to reach with Contra.
Anyway it fly opened and powered and don't close itself under gust like it does without the 5th.
The set up should be good since i've followed all instructions, and anyway it flyes really powered now.
It might depend on the different shape beetwen Rhino and Vegas.
Today all my friends with Vegas recived the 5th element so tomorrow I can tell you my impression about it.

Hi Foxi, today my friend come with a Vegas 18 and the complete bar 5th.
So I've relized my setup was bad. But with the right set up the central line is neutral ( a little loosened) and the kite doesn't have any improvement, it only stays closed with a poor traction. At this point I've started pulling the leash of the 5th and find the kite becomes powerfull by pulling 10cm of the red leash, so I've made a knot on the red leash 10cm lower and the kite starting working very good. I could ride and going upwind with my R'04 20 so I've put it down and try the Vegas 18 can't go upwind and ride in the same Knots (a few) .
What do you think?
