Here are some biased details about the new model.
Got my new 2005 nitro 2 days ago, and have been neglecting work because of it.
Bar and safety are all different but after two sessions I feel at ease with it.
The colors of bar and lines have changed, and do not represent the customary nautical code, which I find quite a pity coming from seafaring background (we are after all still venturing out to sea).
The safety system looks a bit technical, but works fine, as this is the first thing I tested. In safety mode you just let the bar go and the kite folds up, Harmless. The powerlock mechanism has also been rethought, and clips in and out with a bit more ease than the previous type.
The big change/improvement is on the other end of the lines:
The kite feels soft on the bar, and the required steering forces are incredibly light. I had to keep an eye on this baby to know where she was in the window.
You can see a whole lot more of the kite due to the prospan I presume, and the power of this 12mt was just as solid as my previous 14Mt. So remember this if you want to get one, better still; try one out to understand the difference.
Turning speed was fast, but manageable once I got the hang of it.
First day out the wind was gusting from 12 to 23knts, but this was not much of a problem with this kite thanks to the very efficient depower range common to this brand. (weigh 87 Kgs)
Second day out the wind was way softer ad used a 5'10" autopilot. Had a great time and really look forward to all my next sessions.
The 12 and 10 Nitro have more overall range.
I got alot of time on the 10m. When Pete came down i was riding the 05 N10m while he was on 04 N12m (as a comparison). These kites have similar wind ranges. As i was fairly powered on the 10m Pete was still hanging onto the 12m and he weighs 75kg (10kg less than me).
Don't think of the new kites as being 'more powerful' think of them as having more range. While the pro span lifts its low end the thinner profiles let the kite fly further forward for the high end.
My main kites were 10m Nitro and 16.5 Contra and 23.5C
These kites in your quiver you can't go wrong.
As I said these were first impressions.
I have had the 12 out in stronger winds in the meantime, and have had no trouble whatsoever controling the power.
I didn't even tension the depower belt, and was able to boost triple lift jumps.
The 04 nitro was awesome for powered wakestyle even though it was high aspect! , do you guys think you can ride the 12 05 nitro unhooked.
I rode the co2 05 which was awesome, but I really like the flying speed and upwind of the Nitros. Also got to ride the 16.5 contra which was super cool for this style
Hi again guys.
I am now totally confused !!!!!
Been riding the contra 23,5 and the nitro 12 one after the other in the same conditions, and had great fun with both.
As I was using the contra, my son was using the nitro.
When he came in, I took it for a spin on my surfboard, and was flying around the lagoon with lots of speed.
The word range has a whole new meaning now, and the tables have to be rewritten.
Here the official reasons:
- production swivel body having some issues with stretching
-The centre tooth in bar having some problems, specially when riding unhooked
-ride and launch inadvertantly triggered by some riders
-CAS sheared where Q/R pin sewn in
-Tower body bending when activated
I don't understand it all, but will still keep my recon2 unless they insist on return. I build a lot of my own stuff, and will keep a close eye on these points and repair if necessary.
