I heard from a Euro forum that the Chickenloop on the Sonic is connected to the Clamcleat with just one tiny screw and nut. And that it is very easy for the nut to come loose. If it does and the screw pops out then it's bye bye Sonic.

Could someone from GK, or someone who already has a Sonic please confirm?

If so, I wonder if a locking nut (like nyloc) or if threadlocker should be put on the threads to ensure that this does not happen?

Yes I had my first fly on our shop demo model and I am pretty sure the nut is not a nylock. I would suggest using a superstrength threadlocker like Loctite or maybe adding a small stainless steel spring washer. Not a major problem though.

Only got to use it in around 11-14knt today so no jumps. I was very impressed by the simplicity of the kite compared to the Crossbow and that it is less luffy/fluttery than the CB as well.

I don't think its fair to say that the nut is 'easy to come loose'

It is also not a "tiny" nor a "screw"... it is a 6mmm stainless allen bolt and nut.

As i said on another thread.... its something to keep an eye on and pre flight check for sure...

We've had no problem with the bolt or nut on our cleet in many, many sessions. Its not super tight so that the c-loop can't pivot from side to side but I can't unscrew it with fingers and it looks like it ain't going no-where and it hasn't.

It is also looking very strong and effective yet simple to swop out when the C-loop needs changing.

Mat Pendle has also had no problem in many months of testing his kites.

Globerider are aware of this feedback and have already notified the factory to double check this part and all distributors have also been told to check.

Hi,

I've now sailed my 11m for around 2 months.
and the 14m last week in Cabo Verde (pic's at http://fluidhigh.com/trips/05-Cabo-Verde/).

For me (75 kg, board 130 x 37cm) the 11m works 100% from 15knots to 30 knots. Below 15 I've not yet got the hang of how to not use too much back line tension. I switch to my 14m Sonic that takes me down to 8-10 knots. I can stay upwind when similar size riders on 16 and 18m C kites are going downwind

As it gets to 30 knots and over I can go out, but although I feel safe with the bar release etc. system, for me it's too much power and speed (at the moment).

But heck, IMHO 15 to 30 knots for 1 kite is awesome.
- and I'm sure I'll get better at using this kite so the range will expand.

I know everyone goes on about the range of bow kites, but if you want to waveride you need to have a bow kite in its sweetspot. So though you may be able to take a 8 in nuking conditions no problem, for waveriding it may be to strong. I thus hope that the 8 is small enough as even in times the 7 Xbow can be too powerful in extreme winds on a wave.

The Sonic is less a of bow than the others, it is less flat/more C-shaped than the other brands, so i assume the 8 will be similar to a 7 bow. Please correct me if im wrong, a flatter kite will have more power than a curved kite. So since the Sonic is the most C-shaped of the bows, then it should actually have slightly less power than flatter bows in the same size range?
