Progression "Beginner" DVD

Postby Toby » Sat Dec 17, 2005 10:40 am

From Fatsand website:

Professional kitesurfers show each step of the learning process in a clear, concise, and easily replicated way. From setting up the kite to your first jump, Progression: Beginner safely demonstrates easy-to-learn ways to master kitesurfing.

As a fully authorised IKO instructional DVD, you can rest assured that Progression: Beginner will enhance the learning process, being the perfect companion to professional instruction.

Narration in the following languages:
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese.

My opinion:

Progression Beginner (PB) is an excellent DVD. It shows any aspect for learning kitesurfing and gives very important riding and safety tips. By the information you can tell that this DVD was created by kitesurfers and instructors, which is an excellent combination for a successful learning DVD.
PB shows from different angles how you have to steer the kite and how you have to ride. Nice picture in picture scenes show you about right and wrong handling or body and kite movements.
Simple symbols explain wind directions, right or wrong etc to get a better understanding of what is going on.

PB shows also quiet some more advanced tricks, so you get the complete range from zero to hero.

Since it is available in many languages, most of us can listen to it in our native language and this way understand it way better, specially when learning.

In my opinion a very good guide to start kiteboarding and I definately will tell everyone, who wants to learn kiteboarding, to get this DVD before and then do a course. This way you will understand the sport faster and your learning curve will increase.

Congratulations Fatsand, great job!

Toby,

Do you think the video is primarily for the beginner, how much time is spent on basics? For someone who is up and riding and just beginning to stay up wind would you recommend this or the next of the series Progression Intermediate?

Thanks,

X

The DVD aims to cover everything from the very beginnings up to learning to jump, over 2 1/2 hours and 12 Chapters. But the last 3 Chapters - Riding and Staying upwind, change of direction and Jumping are the most indepth and take up over the half the DVD. If you're just staying upwind then get Beginner rather than intermediate as you're still going to get alot from the DVD - don't be put off because it says its a "beginners" DVD!

The "other" Progression DVD is all about backs/fronts and "air" transitions - another excellent vid (extremely detailed) but not the most useful for someone who hasn't quite mastered a straight air. I haven't had a chance to see the Beginner DVD yet, but if it's as good as the other one, I'd say get both!

"The Complete Kiteboarding Guide" is another great one for intermediates (IMO) because it covers so much ground you realize you have a lot to work on before getting to any of the advanced stuff (and it has that too) - but doesn't have nearly the same level of detail as Progression, and sometimes that extra detail is just what you need to figure something out.

(maybe you should buy all three...)
