Underground 06 FLX 128 - how to control spray in the face?

I just got a used '06 FLX 128x38 board. Great board. Very smooth in the chop,
nice landings, and light. However, I've noticed that I get sprayed all the time in
the chop. Is there a technique to riding this board to eliminate this spray?
Does the stance make a difference? I weigh 152 lbs (69 kg).
Smaller fins? (it has 4cm fins)

I really like the board, it's just the spray that's annoying.

I use the 132 x 39 , 2006.

I don't get spray in my face . (I ride in waves, choppy and flat water). The footstraps are set at the widest stance possible.

I also have tried to reduce the stance, still no spray, but in that case the board would not go upwind correctly.

With the 06 you get more spray then the newer models.
The only way to avoid it is to try to flatten out your board by putting more pressure on your toes.
Smaller fins will not help.
Maybe try to change your stance.
I had the same board but I am 6ft2, and maybe the spray just missed me.
Love the 08, but a bit more spray then the 07.
Or is it the 08? might even be the 07 or early 08, either way.
Do you get the spray either way, forward and backward?
Might just the location where you ride, wind direction and chop direction.

To stop the spray square the first six to eight inches of the rail off with a sanding block. i have done this on my 07 128 and it cured it completley.( this mod came direct from undergrond)

either that or place the fins further towards the boards centerline. This involves drilling newholes and closing the existing ones.

Here's an idea that may help. Make a spray deflector shield...

Cut a thin piece of plastic (like from a milk jug) and mount it to the top of your board via the fin hole screws so that it overhangs the end of the board. You will have to experiment with this to see how small you can make it and still keep the spray down.

The deflector should not affect the way your board rides. It weighs only a few grams. And it is free.

i also ride an 06' 128X38 UG. Wonderful board. Im125lbs/56Kg..... The trick for me is to keep my face against my leading arm/shoulder....like Dracula does with his cape. The spray usually is deflected by my armpit/shoulder.

sunglasses help also. :cool2:

Try also putting your front leg straight. It lifts more up the front end of the board and you get less spray. It is also a smoother way to ride fast and with less forces needed.

But maybe you already are doing so. :)

Thanks for this tip. Its one of those things you know will work but may screw up something else, so you don’t want to take the risk.

So does this mod have any effect on the way the board rides, for good and bad? Is the board less smooth? Better upwind?

Is there a place that underground talks about it?

Update:

I finally got around to replacing the foot pads and straps on my '06 FLX 128.
I mounted the new straps closer to the center of the board and on my first time out
I noticed less spray. I like the board even more now!
