Hola!
I've bought 9 and 13 xbow IDS, weighting 95kg. Great quiver, but still I think I need 7m for those nuking situations =] btw - 13 in 10kts wind is not as quick as u would like it to be :)

Got the 13m2, ordered the 9m2. But I am only 67kg
The 13m2 is amazing, the hangtime, easy to take kiteloops. When jumping, I often float 1m above the surface for an incredible length, and just before touchdown I get a small lift making the landing incredible smooth. Amazing control and feel, compared to my old Contra 14m2.

Hi Kosh. What about the low end of the new Crossbow 13 compared with the Contra 3 14? Is the Contra more powerful due to the bigger size (1 meter up) or not? Thanks in advance. :bye:

Take a look at the photos I posted on that page. Basically, the 1m2 difference is just not big enough to change the lowend by very much I would say. The main difference is in the wingtips, and not much lift there anyway. And since the kite is faster, and turns quicker, my own experience is currently that the lowend is equal, or equal enough so that I dont care because the kite is a lot more fun to kite with!

Hi all, as some of you know I won a 10m Xbow IDS recently, and have just got the chance to give it a proper test. Thought I would post my thoughts, in case anyone is interested - FWIW Cabrinha haven't asked me to say anything about the kite, even though I won it, just thought I would give you my thoughts, as it's an 09 kite:-

I rode today on flat water. The lulls were 10kts, the gusts were up to 25kts. I weigh -ahem- 56kgs and was on a Brunotti Pro princess 130 x 38. I admit I was really surprised when I got home and checked the wind stats - it didn't feel like it had dropped to 10kts, always felt powered enough on the kite. I had flown this kite for a couple of hours yesterday in what were very gusty and choppy conditions. It managed the gusts pretty well.

Am v happy with the safety features. Like the big red plastic central QR. Like that when I dropped the bar the kite depowered and sat on the water. Relaunch was easy - though when I flew it in v light winds the other day I couldn't relaunch it, which could just as well be my fault as the kite's. Pulled the QR and wound the lines in yesterday in about 26kts of wind and found there to be very little pull on the kite. Winding in is fairly straightforward, work up to the bar and then just wrap all 4 lines at once. This leaves just a fairly short piece of line near you, less to tangle up in. As I said, very little pull from the kite when winding in the lines, which is a relief for me as I kite in offshore winds mostly. The re-launch and safety gave me the confidence to try things today that I have not tried before.

Not convinced with the Cabrinha "sprint" (one pump) system. I like one pumps, but this system seems a little bit fiddly.

I have only ridden it on the "light" bar pressure setting (rather than "lighter"), and have found it to be rather heavy. I will try it on the lighter setting, but doing this means the throw on the bar is increased, I think, and I will have to modify the power/depower straps as I can only just reach them at the moment. Once I have lengthened them I will try the "lighter" setting - my wrists are quite sore after just two hours today. I do miss not having a stopper, which the Xbow IDS does not have at present. There were a couple of times when it would have been nice to have been able to let go of the bar for a couple of seconds, but the lack of a stopper precludes this. A retro-fit stopper is apparently going to be available in October, which I will be fitting. I could only just reach the bar when I dropped it.

The trickiest bit I have found is re-directing the kite after a jump. I assume it is because of the bar pressure being heavier than what I am used to (07 Waroos), but I was really having to pull hard to redirect the kite. When I did get this timed right, though, the landing was softer than I used to land on the Waroos.

I bloody hate body-dragging up wind, and am not v good at it, but I deliberately left my board way up wind at one point today, and found upwind body-dragging to it fairly easy with the Xbow IDS. (I have yet to find a kite that drags upwind as well as the GK sonic I flew last year though).

Quite a few pulleys on the bridle - I think Rou Chater (iksurf mag) said there were six, but I didn't count yet - but the bar is really clean and simple, one leash attachment point.

Verdict - like it, and will be buying a 7m to complete my quivver when they are available in the UK again.

For me, it was the total opposite, the kite was so easy to redirect, always where I wanted it to be. But I am used to having pulleys on the bar, so for me, the bar pressure is a lot lighter. So I guess it depends on your previous kites a lot. I've ordered a 9m2 to complete my quiver (got a 13m2).

To start, I'm 200#, riding a 148x41 all-around (Crazy Fly) board. Currently am using 12m Cabrinha Convert.

For low winds (10 kts) this is not enough. Looking at XBOW IDS 16 as solution. Am concerned about slow turning. Shy of losing weight (I could, but is not likely), are there other alternatives I should be looking at?

Not if you want to buy a Cabrinha kite...

Somewhere on kiteforum.com I read this, cannot remember which thread (copied it from another place now):
In flight - I love this kite, its much more fun to fly, it turns much much faster than the old Contra. I believe it will fly in just as light winds (maybe lighter) than the contra, the material of the kite is very solid and well put together - there is less wieght to the kite so I think it may stay in the air better than the contra on the light winds - especailly since it is much more manauverable. With the Contra light wind kite the flying was more of a pure torque and grunt pull so there was not much joy out of actually flying the kite as it turned and moved slow, with the new CB - IDS the joy of flying a big kite has returned - I believe its the new bridle configuration that lets the kite pivot much faster and being smaller it moves across the sky much faster. The jumps are good and hang time is excellent as long as you dont choke off the kite, which Im still doing as it seems more prone to choke off than the other Cabrinha's I fly but its only a matter of tuning the kite so its a non-issue. I havnt played with the saftey and depower yet, but Im glad I did the upgrade on the joys of flying this kite alone - anyone want a used 17m Contra ?

Thanks Kosh. Wow! I saw the pics and I have to say that you really did a good job. The projected area seems almost the same and this could explain why those kites have a similar low end. Thanks again and have fun! :bye:
