Thanks naishdude! My buddy flies a sport +. He's like you: once Ozone, always Ozone! I think that kite is a great kite to learn with! Thanks for the offer to try your C4, but it could only happen if you shipped it to me, cuz I'm in the states! ;-)

I'm wondering of you could tell me more about some features.

Low end? I imagine the low end on these kites just won't compare to the low end on hybrid/bows?
Turning speed, any kites you can compare it to in speed so i have an idea?
Depower, bow like 80% depower? long throw?
Uunhook? any problem what so ever unhooking this kite without touching the depower beforehand even if you end up pointing the kite to fly upwards?

Somebody has done more extensive testing on these pieces?

Hi Stefaans, I have now been riding the C4s for a month or so, not had great winds but have had some epic sessions. I have ridden the 13 11 and 7. I am 85 kilos and ride twin tips mainly.

The 13m gets me going in 12 to 13 knots, about the same as my 13m Sport from last year, not as early as the 13m Edge. But what is nice is that it is so quick that you can really work it to get you moving to generate speed and power.

Turning speed, it is very fast and keeps a smooth and constant power right through the turn, even the 13m is a great wave kite for nice downloops and quick change of directions.

Depower, there is loads, more than the Sport + and the bar throw is the same, all in easy reach.

Unhooking, for tricks there is no need to trim, you just unhook and go for it. With unhooked waveriding then you should trim the bar 5 cm or so to keep the kite alive when you push it slightly downwind other wise it will fall back in the window a little,

Hope you get a chance to try one, if yiou are in Spain then let me know and I will sort you out wth a demo.

Is Ozone discontinuing the Sport+ and replacing it with the C4?

I'm an intermediate kiter just beginning my third season and last year i sprang for 3 sports - very happy with them - but wouldn't be thrilled to hear the line is being discontinued after its first year as a 4 line and the investment on my part.

I had originally only used Ozone foils on the snow and made the switch from another brand for the water kites hoping that I could stick with one system.

What do you do if you are perfectly happy with the 09 sports and just wanted to update as those evolved? Being only two years into Kiting I'm not sure from the limited info and experience I have I that I want to ride C kites.

Any info or advice?

Hi, you dont have to worry, the C4 is a C shaped kite but it has all the benefits of the 4 line Sport that you have been riding, it has still huge depower and is very easy to re launch, the feel on the bar is a little lighter and the turns are faster but you will be able to get on one and have a lot of fun without needing to get used to it, it still has that super smooth Ozone feel.

Ozone are not making the Sport for 2010, the line up is the Catalyst (3 strut Freeride kite and replacement of the Light XC), C4 (Freeride, Freestyle Replacement for the Sport) Edge 2010 Race and Hangtime, and the Light wind special 17m Zephyr.

It is a great line up and we are super stoked about the difference between the 4 kites.

Cheers Iain

What is wrong with the 2009 Ozone Sports that they are being discontinued. When any company or brand discontinues a line they do so knowing they are potentially alienating a substantial portion of their customer base so I am curious to know the reasons behind this decision. I am concerned why after such a major change to the Sport line in 2009 the Sport is being abandoned altogether?

At the time that I bought my 3 Sports I did a lot of research on Ozone's "new ground-breaking 2009 direction". I watched all of the extensive designer videos produced by Ozone explaining the rationale and thinking behind the extensive changes to Ozone's line-up last year; which I might add did an excellent job of making me believe Ozone's modified 09 direction was in no way made on a whim but through "careful consideration and planning" and I guess I mistakenly believed I could invest in three 09 Sports with the knowledge that I could look forward to future purchases of continuously advanced Sports?

I am only two years into kiting and I don't know if its the forums or the kite media but when I hear C kite my gut reaction says NO that's not as safe even though I know I don't know why.

Really surprised by this move and would be interested to know more. It sounds like the C4 is a wonderful kite to experienced people who can compare it to that old C kite they used to ride, but what about customers like me relatively new to the sport that bought a full line of Ozone foils for the snow and then a full quiver of Sports for the water because what I believed what you told me about what you were doing in 2009?

learn2 Ckite sometime, it ain't so bad.
Sounds like the gut reaction is more like conditioning/brainwashing.
It was a little different in 2005 when most Cs had little depower and really were a little less safe.
C's from 2008 on usually have a ton of depower, and nearly all kites have good safety systems now.
But yes, bow/hybrid advocates still hammer on safety as if only their kites were safe. Apparently you heard that message.
Reality is no kite is very safe, but most are safer than 5-10 years ago.
Safety is up to the rider anyway.

...Plus, if you are a relative newcomer to kiting and plunked for 2 ozone quivers already, you can expect 3-5 seasons before you need anything new due to wear, unless you ride daily like some kind of lucky sport junky.
Ozone has a quality reputation, their kites are good and no reason to piss away $6-10k yearly to get slight mods... ..and it will take that long to learn to get the most from the gear.
So relax, it's all good. 8)
IMHO, at least.
