I have taken delivery of two Maelstorm Kamikazes – pics below. I have a 134 x 41 as my lightwind board which comes fully loaded as in the “posed” pics of me on the beach, and a 129 x 39, which is in the riding shots, with my Cabrinha Syncs on.
We had been having some rare on shore wind in my (usually offshore and butter flat) spot recently, resulting in choppy conditions, and am really pleased to report that this is cutting through the chop really nicely, I am guessing it’s the thin rail. My friends have tried the 134 x 41 and are amazed at its up-windability, and really liked the cushioned pads.
Many of you will know – or will have been trained by – Neil Godbold, who is also riding the 134 x 41 Maelstorm Kamikaze now, and said to me,
“Did enjoy it, something like my old Naish Thorn but way better. Its quite mixed riding here in Ni Yang, flat sections, chop and even small waves on the outside off the reef, so had a good chance to get a feel for it all over really. So hoofs upwind and has really clean line, so no Nobile type spray in the eyes all the time, good in the chop, moved nicely in the waves and good bit of pop on the jumps, so yep not bad at all.”www.maelstormgear.com
