So finally had a session on the new Evo 9 last week and now its raining can write what I thought.
I normally ride Rebels but had last years Evos too.
Conditions were-
Solid 6ft waves cross-crossoff shore wind around 15knts gusty and shifty
Was flying on 20m lines 4 line bar with lines splitting straight above cleat (not north lines). Strapless surfboard

On the beach-
First of all was not sure how the kite would be as last years was super stable with the struts pumped up super hard without the 1 pump. However the struts seemed to fill nicely and get nice and hard giving a solid frame. Bungys on tips seem a bit tighter this year. Build is again top notch!

In the air-
How stable, the Evo is super stable and will not fall down but seems to stay up no matter how patchy or shifty the wind is. was well impressed.
Power wise, it has a lot of grunt but not sure if any more powerful than a 9 Rebel due to the definate slower flying speed but if you like a kite to pull you rather than work it up to speed then it will have more low end!
Unhooked on the wave is where it was most impressive. Super stable with a solid feel, light in the turns and always sitting where you want it without back stalling or jerking you off ;)
Hooked in was not so good with unresponsive steering and on off power.

Conclusion-
if you want to ride unhooked all the time with a super stable kite then go Evo!
If you ride hooked in and occaisionally unhook then go Rebel!

will try compare in cross on conditions soon
cheers
