Seamax electric pump review... I love it

Postby bmcfiv » Sat Sep 29, 2018 9:51 pm

Anyone who is type A is always busy. I'm very type A, so anything effort that allows me more time on the water I'm all for. So I finally decided to buy an electric pump so that I can rig while the kite is being pumped up. Also, I don't need the extra pump work out, I'd rather save the energy for the water.

After looking at options, there are a ton of SUP sites that have recommendations. I settled on the Seamax Blue Portable Electric Air Pump 1 - 8.5 PSI. About $200 and comes with a battery.

So, simply put, it's a game changer for me. I shave off probably 3-5 minutes of pump time each session, and multiply that by 2 if you have to change kites. I take my kite out, attach it to my bag, connect the hose, press start, rig everything, and by the time I'm ready the kite is full of air. Probably take 5 minutes for my 14M, 3 minutes for my 9M (I think). It's a two stage pump. Not that loud and who cares. You set to desired PSI and it automatically turns off. I can probably get 8-15 pumps per charge, but honestly don't know. I probably weighs 10 lbs, but I have a new bag system that's worked perfectly so no problems there.

Pros
Shaves time off of setup
Save energy for water
Particularly nice when you have to pump up multiple kites
Somewhat rugged

Cons
No battery gauge
One more electronic to fuss with
A little heavy
I have to modify the hose to fit my valve
Worried about sand issues and warranty

Improvements
Battery gauge
Make IP65 or higher
Make a little tougher, plastic seams cheap
If you can make it faster great, but pretty good as is

Doesn’t take long to pump up a kite with wmfg tall pump but if you in a big rush...don’t see why 30-to a min makes a difference lol get the wmfg double barrel...never any reason to rush that’s how mistakes get made I have seen many.

The new pumps are so much better. I really don't find pumping that big of a deal and the warm up is good for the body IMO, especially when its cold..

I have the older yellow version and it works a treat. Came with a coffee filter to put on the intake to keep the sand out. Has lasted 2 yeas with no problems.

I have a compressor and air tank in my truck. It takes less than 1min to blow up a kite a little bit more if I'm inflating my 17m. Cost around 500 usd but has been going strong for 6 years now and will go in my next truck as well.

A very nice solution for something that is not a problem.... added to that you have forgotten some cons:
1. It costs 200$
2. It takes up space in car and house/garage
3. You need to put in the time/effort to charge it
4. Footprint (I try to resist buying stuff the world and I can do without).
5. Yet another item that can be stolen at the spot

I always find it amusing that the cheap people( and self proclaimed warmeruppers) will make excuses why they don’t, and therefore you don’t need/want something.
Here’s an idea, this is a review of an electric pump, if you have experience or something to add that is pertinent to the topic then please speak up, if not stfu and start your own thread of why you like pumping like a <fill in the blank.>

Spot on. I do love #4 especially. Because life requires as a basic need to kite board so much kites actually grown on trees. Seems like if Footprint was that important than he would not be posting at all since it is not needed either personally or worldly.

I have the old yellow version, and it worked for three years. I used it a lot. I have a tall North pumps and works well. One question, how do I replace the battery. I can't open the air pump.
