I don't know all places, so the best one I can't tell you. I can tell you that Cabarete is great in that time of year for wind and waves. We have apartments near Encuentro which is a great wavespot; perfect for wave riding. Wind is almost always side shore there and stable. And CAbarete is a great place to be. Good nightlife, nice restaurants and bars, lots of things to see and do and the Dominican Republic is a beatiful country.

who would ever publish their absolute no1 BEST fave spot on here from a pure non commercial riding perspective - share some good ones yeah - but the best? To me that is like giving away your bank account details!
There are great places to go out and discover all around the world and in some of these places there is the freedom to ride, and the locals even take responsibility for their own actions (how's that lady in the ruben lenten video on his site - she reminded me of a dog from a dog attack program from the other night! - filled with so much hate!)
go discover your best/ fave spot.

Totally agree with Ian. Look up some wind stats on some places and then go there and ride. I'm sure there are plenty of good spots out there that have been pimped before but the best spots have probably never even been kited yet!

Yes, the conditions to surf are excellent just outside cabarete on encuentro beach. The waves are really nice en smooth. This weekend there is/was a surfcompatition on this location which was a great success. Nice weather, big waves and a lot of people. Encuentro is a really relaxed spot and the locals are very nice and friendly.
We have apartments on this location and live there also.
If you want some information about surfing in cabarete you can send me an email to

Unfortunately the wind is not reliable in Cabarete until the spring. Great place, just don't count on wind that time of year. Last winter there were weeks without wind. I went in mid March and the wind started getting better.
I have also been a couple of years in January and got virtually no wind.. which is why I wait for March now.

Last year was indeed very bad compared to other years. But normally you can still kite around 5 out of 7 days. Sometimes with a bigger kite, sometimes with a small kite. Normally October and November are bad wind months, but this year, we had really good weeks with sometimes every day wind. And normally after December it only gets better with the wind.
