I dont really understand the need of numbers on the kite as an experince rider i personally dont have any problem kite size picking ?? I know when its 12 time or 16

And beginners might steer blind on some numbers they should ride after their ability ..I guess we all should....

if you are turning up at a new spot, and havent had time to look at the real weather report rather than just catching it on the tv or radio, an indication of what people are riding can be a help.

so personally it doesnt matter to me, i choose when i get there and take all my kit, but if it helps some people. ...

Hope company will lissen, again yesterday I was on the beach and actually the only kites that I was able to see the size were Best, the OLD Naish... NO CABRINHA in the beach!!
Slingshot was difficult even when they were parked LE down on the beach!!
Wind was pretty light and big kites were flying... It was actually interesting to compare who was able to stay upwind and who was walking.
By the way the Best Yarga 20 meter doesn't look to have much power for his size......

I'm indifferent, but I sure hope that this wouldn't preclude any one kiter from looking at the weather and wind forecast, and also observing the site conditions before making a careful, informed, personal decision about what to fly...

you should never put up what everyone else is using. But it gives you an idea, and normally you know the people at your local beach. So you decide due to forecast, your style, weight etc and what users are using to rig your gear. But seeing the other sizes should make you feel more comfortable...because they are out and riding and you are at the beach, and there can be a big difference between these too locations.

I don't know if we need monster numbers that you can see from 200m away, but its kind of ridiculous how small and hard to spot the numbering is on some kites, even from close up.

If a group of guys at a particular beach really want to know what size
each other is riding before they go out they could simply mount a
white-board and marker pen somewhere close to the launch area
then just before launching jot down their relevant stats in four
pre-marked colums:

e.g.

• Date : 3 Mar
  Rider:____Kite size:____Board size:____Weight:
  Tinman_____18__________145_________220
  Fred_______16___________132________145

( I suggest "Rider" to a) reduce the effectiveness of the
inevitable bullshit entries that will appear and
b) among riders who know each other this will effectively
indicate skill level )

They could then erase their entry when they come in.

Much more useful than kite size alone and probably a whole lot
easier to organize than getting every kite manufacturer to print
sizes in huge numbers on their kites.

Steve, that would work on a beach where a club or center is etc, but not on a normal beach almost everyone of us is riding.
And in a club/center someone knows what they are riding (e.g. Magawish, Egypt).

Right, on some kites it is even hard to spot the size if sitting on the beach!

Two tumbs up to Cabrinha
Size is really clear on the side of their kite.
Two tumb down to Naish on the X4 is really impossible to see the size, I ride for one hour with 2 guys on X4, I tought they were on 14 or 16 meter and when I asked them on the beach at the end of the day they told me they were using 12 meter!!!
I was doing good on my 16......

There are many way to find out about the wind condition, strenght etc...
But to me kites that don't show the size are not more stylish then the one with a nice number on the side.... I'm not talking about 2meter square...
But a 50 cm so that at least you can see the size when standing on the bottom of the kite!
Maybe the companies will lissen to us...
