Cross bow close call BEWARE !!!

Postby chickenlooper » Wed Nov 23, 2005 7:42 am

While at the beach today I saw a very scare incident.A good friend tried a handle pass with 12 mtr Cross bow BUT when he grabbed the bar he missed and placed his hand between the steering lines in the V against the pulley this left him trapped by the wrist the kite fully powered up LOOPING and heading towards the beach it was cross onshore. Lucky an other kiter ran down the beach and as the kite looped over the shore about 2 feet above the ground he jumped on it. It totally flattened him knocking him to the ground but he managed ot stop the kite. Now my friend has one very damaged wrist but was lucky!!! If brad had not acted so quickly jason would have not stopped until the trees another 15 mtr up the beach

Well this is very bad news for the handle pass on the bars with pulleys
as I don't see how you can prevent this from happening once in a
while.Brad is my hero ,a man has to be able to rely on his friends :thumb:

Is this really any different from a regular pulley bar, there's been plenty of handle passes thrown on them.

Sounds really unlucky to me, what are the odds of it happening again?

Cabrinha has to back off with their TOTAL SAFETY claims.
This is one of the many dangerous problems with the X-Bow.
Great kite from what I hear, but like all other kites has it's risks.

Great job Brad. :thumb: It's people like you that make this a great sport. The way to go when you see someone in trouble is to react fast and help. Even so so situations can quickly turn to trouble.

I hope Jasons hand gets better soon... I know somwething about it..last Saturday went kiting having had my hand mauled by a dog. The Doctor that was supposed to give me stitches decided to leave early even though I had an appointment... (you've got to love American Health Care).

Had fun anyway

Cheers

Hey, Fred. Next time you go kiting don't forget to wear a profalactic....just to be totally safe!.
It's kiting, it's got risk, loads of power, if it didn't none of us would do it.
Forgive my sarcasm, I'm feeling dangerous.

Don't get me wrong. Nothing against a kite with significant risks, it's the BS like "Total Safety" comming from companies that will use any hype to push their products.

What I was trying to get at is that it is a potentially dangerous sport so looking out for each other is the way to go and don't trust most companies to be honest about their products.

Cheers

Compared to conventional "C" kites the bow kites(including XBow) are way over 100% safer.
So I think any claim about 100% safety should be taken in the right context.
We are after all kiting, not staying in bed which by the way is also over 100% safer than kiting.

Hey, I stubbed my toe on the bedpost getting into bed just the other night!!!
Did I sleep well that night? No!
Did I sleep "Better than you've ever slept before" as quoted on the ad for my "Dreamaway Mattress", NO!

Totally BS man.
