Why is there so many boards and kites that are black, blue, gray or other collores that is hard to see when they are floating in the water?
I realy hate my good GRAY 05 Jamie pro the times I loose it and having difficulties to find it.
(So I am about to paint it yellow)
And when kiting in the evening, how smart is it to have a realy dark kite???
If I get in trouble I would seriously like someone to see me and my kite if it is laying in the water....

Reason#1? Same reason diving equipment makers do that - to avoid the shark attracting effects of bright and contrasting colors like orange and "yum yum yellow" as described in
http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/isaf/color.htm
Reason#2? I believe a company rep here said that they sell a lot more in those darker colors. And I know that company was able to reduce prices recently, so maybe the fact that more morons find dark colors cool helps lower the mass marketed price. So you can afford to lose it a bit earlier and still end up ahead.
Reason#3? More dark boards sold because they get lost, increasing profits.

I would have to agree that some of the color schemes are pretty dumb. I like a good color combo that looks decent and is also bright enough to help the Coast Guard find me if needed.
I recently saw a bow kite that was black, olive and grey. It would be perfect for covert kiting, but would suck if you needed to be found.
White is by far the worst kite color because it gets dirty quickly and is very hard to keep clean.
thats just my 2 cents.

some very important points about visibility.
I think that my flourescent green and flouescent orange yarga is a little too much
I spend more time on land and those flies LOVE yellow

aye, after having my first kite (a flysurfer) I will not take a kite with a lot of white anymore (esp not at the leading or trailing edge as they touch ground/water the most)
it hasn't been a problem yet but I can see the kite looking bad in a year of intensive use

leave a dark colored tarp out in the sun for an hour or 2 and then go roll it up.
