Jumping high over the sand before strapless downwinder

Postby PullStrings » Sun Apr 17, 2016 1:51 pm

Have you ever come up to someone doing that and telling him he was setting a bad example and he should stop ?
The wind was 25 knots side-on and he had a 9m kite up.
The beach was crowded with people and kiters.
He chose to rig near street entrance instead of near the water.
There were bystanders only 25ft downwind of him as he was easily 10 ft high over a dozen times and sometime spinning.
When i said to him he should stop he said...you're kidding right ?
His response also...i live with a kite in my hands..i am just killing time waiting for my friend to start our downwinder
( Note that he is an instructor and ride for a major kite company ....and not a local )

I am all for jumping on purpose over the water with a board

Happen to me just the other day. Really quite disappointing and annoying. I said he was setting a really bad example and he should consider the consequences of his action, I mean what if some one saw him? I then said to him with a stern face 10ft is not high enough and if he wasn't prepared to do it properly he shouldn't try at all.

Let me guess he was young and dumb. I think we all have been that way at some point.
I am fairly sure we will never be able to stop that kind of stuff, till they just ban kiteboarding outright from public beaches.

But good to say something. You might get a snide remark, but he might think twice next time before showing off.

So he is doing static jumps on the beach? I don't like the fact that there are people down wind. But if they are not in the landing zone the that's ok.
Remember that there is more to kiting that just the water. Static flying and jumping is a sport on its own. I'm a landboarder also and will do landboard jumps with people near. You have too because there's always people on the beach. But you choose the take off point and ensure there is no one in the landing run out area.

Some guys seemingly can't help but do it as soon as kite is up. One or two is one thing but anymore and you are asking for it. Kind of like a teenager doin burn outs in his 75 hp honda. Seems silly but they just keep doin it. As far as his response, what did you expect! I say get shitty next time and be a dick, once he is older he'll understand. This sport needs more aholes to keep people in line, so as not to loose access. No one ever listens to a nice guy these days.

Yep age in mid to late twenties invincible and in total control.
Watching him was his early 20's GF (the car driver for the downwinder) drooling and surely thinking the sun rises and sets in his pants

I've noticed also yesterday someone else while i was on the water jumping several times real high over the sand...and yes some people 40ft downwind
Another guy that was going strapless for his downwinder
Shall we conclude that they miss jumping and figure that doing so as a warm up releases the stress of not being able to do jumps on their surfboards ?

That's exactly what gets kiting banned. I also understand he was nut from the area but up north. I'd be surprised if he did that at his local beach especially if kiting was already scrutiny in his area. I call that Low Emotional intelligence. :duh: :duh: :desperado: :desperado: :desperado: :kiff: :kiff: :kiff: :happybirthday: :happybirthday:

You guys are so incredibly closed minded. As long as you do not endanger other people then there is nothing wrong with jumping on the beach. Just because you are too scared to do it doesn't mean others are not.

With due respect Plummet i landboard for years and jump & spin but i don't do that in 25 mph...you like to jump with wheels in 25 mph instead of riding on water ?
If he was on deserted beach he could jump to the moon and i would not care at all
But he was doing it on a weekend when there was lots of beach goers close enough downwind to put them at risk
You see there are copycats out there and they will want to try what the monkey is doing
Monkey say monkey do

@14Toeside why only 10 emoticons ??
Can't you put more like you normally do ?
Here let me see...i will post 20 of them and see what happens
Here goes
:D :) :( :o :-? 8) :x :P

I tried and could not put more than you did.
New rule from administration.
10 is now the max.
Oh well i hope you can live with that
