Jericoacoara, Ceara’ Brazil .

North of Fortaleza driving for 3 hours on the road and 2 on the sand, you’ll arrive on the fantastic place called Jericoacoara, a small Oasi-fisherman’s-village with his distinctive Dune (a 4 floor sand dune) direct on the sea,
Image
From may to December is populated by a great number of windsurfers and some Kitesurfers, in august and September the average of the wind is 29 knots, it mean you can easely find 40kts. In October till December you’ll have everyday from 26 to 33 knots.

Jeri is a beautiful place to stay with a lot of cheap Posadas (max 50B$ = 16€) and many restaurants,
You can eat in a fantastic way in each of them , I can remember :’’Naturalmente’’ ‘’Sabor de Terra’’ ‘’Carcarà’’, Fish and Lobsters are the best and you should pay about 20B$(6 or 7 €uros) for a complete dinner. At Naturalmente I’ve eaten very good Crepes,(you should try the Martina, Crepes with Banana flambé Ice cream and passion fruit sauce) dinking a Caipirina or the speciality:
‘’The Cacanella’’(Cachacsa with honey and Cinnamon.)
Jerì is not the right place to kite, since in the principal spot near the ‘’Club do Ventos’’ there are too many windsurf and they are in trouble just themselves with the give-way situation and you have also to consider the wind is off-shore.
Image
You can kitesurf in front to the dune or over wich is about 200 mts from the main spot the beach of jerì, the situation here is fantastic about wave riding but if you broke you are in trouble because of the off-shore wind that brings your gear directly to Camocim or over, there are many fisherman’s houses that use kite as tablecloth because of the nice colors and use bar and lines to hang pantyes and T-shirts to dry.

The best spot around Jerico. Is :’’Praia du Preà’’ a big fisherman’s village 12km upwind to jerico,
Image

to get there you have to ask a ‘’Baggero’’ a buggy driver to bring you there, it cost about 60Reais(20Euros) He will bring you there and in the evening he will bring you back or whait you at the end of the beach if you whant to do the Downwind from Preà to Jerico a fantastic 10km downwind. In the ‘’Rua Principal’’ main street of Jerico you can easily find many other kiters in the morning to divide the transport to Prehà with a ‘’Camioneci’’.
Image
You can ask the driver to bring you 10 or more km upwind to Prehà and then to bring the remaining gear to Prehà so you can begin the morning with a beautiful downwind, than eat a big fish in the restaurant ‘’Azul do Mar’’
Image
and when you’ve finished start for the second downwind till Jerico.
Near to Jericoacoara and Prehà there is a big rising water lake system called ‘’Lagoa de Jijioca’’
Divided in ‘’Lago Azul’’ and ‘’Lagoa Paradiso’’ here the wind is a little more gusty than in the beach but the water is fantastic only a little choppy, I’ve started from the posada ‘’da Paolo’’ where the wind in not so strong and from there I’ve reached the middle of the lake where the wind is more strong and stable.Have had also a nice Pizza at Paolo’s posada an Italian windsurfer that lives there since 14 years.
Image
Going on the north of Jericoacoara you’ll find many miles of sandy beach with strong winds and a small village called Tatajuba with his Lake ‘’Lagoa de Tatajuba’’ here the water is very flat the color is not so blue since it is a rainy lake but after many days in waves some flat is good .

A spot you must visit is Curimà, a small village with a nice bay , flat water in the morning, big and distanced waves when the tide grew up, sideshore wind, when you leave you can downwind till Bitupità 14 km from Curimà the last village of Cearà before the region of the Piauì , here you can find a couple of posadas where you can eat or you can wait till Camocim.

Bitupità is about 100 km from Jericoacoara, to go there you can ask Victor tel 00218899616393 he drive a white 4x4 Toyota Pickup with a CheGuevara pic on the back, or Mario , he drives a blue Land Rover always parked on the main Street of Jerico, here’a a pic:
