Kiting in the UK

Postby kitefvr » Sun Nov 28, 2004 5:04 am

I currently live in Minnesota, USA and my company has offered me a position located in the United Kingdom (northwest coastal, place celled Preston...near Manchester). Before accepting, I would really like to hear any information on kiting in the UK - including specific locations, conditions, etc. I don't mind kiting in "not so great" conditions, I'm used to it with the dodgy winds of Minnesota. Anyone out there have some insight?

preston's in lancashire, so you'll be about 30mins or so from several beaches.

morcambe, saint bees, blackpool or asinsdale, at least two of them will be pretty much on your doorstep. all of them work anything with a westerly and are ridable all year. conditions vary from location to location but they all have some good flat water spots and sometimes catch decent swell.

definately worth bringing your kit. the north west coast has a thriving scene of year round kiters in the uk. temperatures require you have a good 5mm for the winter, but nothing you'll not be used to coming from minnesota.
