Sotavento alternativ for the next two weeks

Postby 1234567Simon » Sat Jul 09, 2022 3:19 pm

Dear All,
Right now I am in Sotavento, the Last week, was super nice kiting with Foil and Surfboard. (I have No Twin Tip)

I am prepared for Strong and gusty Winds, but now it is getting TOO MUCH FOR ME. (30KN plus Winds and almost flat offshore)

I tried La Pared. (But very Challenging)

What would be the best alternativ?

Puerto Lajas?
Flag beach....

IT IS Just too far to Just go without knowing .... So If anyone has a good clue, which Spot ist working, please give me a Info... Also via Personal notice.

Thanks a Lot
Simon

Flag beach looks nice. Winds are less strong there, since it doesn't get the venturi like Sotavento does (I don't like that gusty wind there!)

I'm just at north of Fuerte since June 26, excellent wind, although I've kited mostly in Toston lagoons (also flag beach on some days. Another important note - once you leave upwind from Toston lagoons, there is quite some wave, although a bit disordered). Maybe 2 or 3 days max with no good kiting since I'm here, and I don't bother below 16 knots (I'm 95kgs & 14M kite is biggest I have).

Long story short - just move north. Combination of Flag Beach + Toston lagoons & waves nearby + Cotillo beaches (haven't kited there myself but seen ppl there) + some other spots I haven't checked but heard of: anything at north coast - dirt road on the north coast between Corralejo & Cotillo is full of good surfing sports, hence you shall enjoy too with foil and / or surfBoard, + playa Bur(r?)o will surely do for you.

Anyway, looks like you made right decision on stopping kiting at Sotavento last Sat:

(FYI: both Sat & Sun were 35 knots base approx / gusts 45-50, see Rene Egli's windGuru station chart for the details)

I will be in Fuerte next week twintip kiting. My idea is to kite mainly in the north but the only spot I know of so far is Flag Beach.
Would love to know if you found any alternative spots and any special recommendations. I'm am intermediate kiter.
Thanks much!

The time I was there, there was some strange Wind for 4days. Extremely gusty , flat offshore, 35 degrees celcius.

After and before, was normal Strong (25-30), and normal gusty.

I tried Flagbeach, and was Lucky to get some Wind for 45 min.
It is Just to far to Drive every day, If you are with Family.

Flagbeach No rescue.
Sotavento Rene Egli :extremly friendly helpfull instructors, and Jet Ski drivers.... I was super Happy to have them.

Wind Cross of, and gusty. FOR ME it was perfect: Windy all day, so easy to Pick those 3hours, that fit to the Family Life.

It was a 4 min Drive to Rene Egli, so Always went there.
Enjoyed it a Lot!

Everyday was the best day of my Life kiting!

Honestly in my oppinion, IT IS a shitty Kitespot. But I will Go again! It Just is soooo easy to get on the water!

But I am Not the Standard kiter.... I go, rig Up, Kite, and Go Back Home.....
I do Not Care about Sand flying head high.....
I do Not Care about Walking 500meter to the beach....

Have you tried Matas Bay? It is just north of Costa Calma.
