Airline Fee's for kite gear

Postby Kiteboy1978 » Mon Mar 13, 2006 10:20 pm

Im off to egypt next week with exel airlines, flying into Sharm el sheik.
Im only taking a 140cm kite bag, no other luggage and i doubt it'll weigh over 20kg.
Exel say its £50 each way to pay for kitesurf gear.
Anyone had any experiences with this airline? should i pre-book it on as they recommend or risk it and just show up at the airport and look for the campest check in assistant and try and blag it on. :D

Pretty sure that if it is your only hold luggage , it should not be a problem.

Every airline has their won policy. Check online for Weight requirments. It's usually by weight, not size.

Sounds like you should be ok. Post a full report when you return from Egypt. That's on my list for future kite destinations. :thumb:

I've been to Egypt last year in Ras Sudr, very good spot for kiteboarding! How is kiteboarding in Los Angeles? It's possible I go there. When is the season?

if your going to wave riders or the likes, get htme to sort it out so that you don't have to pay.

after all theres no point in goign on a kite holiday fi you can't take your gear.

when we went with xl via waveriders they had it sorted for us to take kite gear for no extra charge

just DO NOT SAY it's the kite gear!!!! Take off any sticker from the bag that shows the brand or design that may recall to our sport. If they ask you what do you carry, you say ANYTHING but not kite gear and they HAVE to check you in with no surcharge. Have good time!
