I am planning a kite trip to Brasil (Cumbuco, Paracuru) in Nov/Dec.

Is it feasible with a 18-month old baby?

What about baby food, diapers, other baby stuff and local medical service availability? Can I communicate there in English? Can I feel comfortable with the idea of taking my baby there?

I think it´s not a problem. You will find here babyfood and stuff like pampers everywhere. Here are more children than adults. But if you call an ambulance you have to wait ..longer. But during the highseason an ambulance will be here in Cumbuco (stand by). There are english speakin´doctors in Fortaleza. Cumbco and Paracuru also have pharmacys and they use the same products like in Europe or in America. Will be not a lot of mosqitos here because of the windy season...so it´s up to you.

There's a fantastic company called SOS International - they offer a "membership" of sorts that gives you 24/7 access to english speaking doctors/nurses, and also provide recommendations and referrals for doctors/clinics/hospitals, etc... In the event of an emergency, they will get moving all the necessary people, in order to get you where you need to be.

When I was there last, a Polish guy, who spoke perfect english, cut his foot pretty badly, and had to go to 4 different hospitals before finding one that could give him the care he needed. I think with SOS's service, this - or even the most basic of pediatric care - can be handled quickly and efficiently.

You do need to purchase before you leave your home country, I believe.

It's worth a look, anyway.

Hi Andy, I was in Cumbuco recently with a friend and her 18month old daughter. The only thing we struggled a little to find when we ran out of them were swim nappies. You can get them, but we had to look in a few places, so take a load when you go. Apart from that minor problem everything else was plentiful and easy to find.

Health wise, it's recommended that the baby has a yellow fever injection but it's not really necesary.

Oh and neither of us speak Portugese (classic or Brasilian) and again we had very little trouble. Although not many people outside of the Hotels speaks English it's usually very easy to make yourself understood and we found the locals so helpful that anyone passing that could translate would usually do so and help us out.

I was there last december with 27 month child. No problemo. Don't forget to put sun block though!
I was in Hotel Golfinho: big pool for kids & wife (+ kids pool) just in front of the spot.
