I'm thinking about heading down to Oz Jan-Feb '08. Trying to get an idea of what size kites I should bring.

small kites...I'm at 195 lbs. When I arrived my smallest was 12M. Rode a 9M and could have used a 7M a few times. Ride Woodman's Point, just south of Perth and get to Monkey Mia, about 8 hours north. Some spots on the way down to Margaret River (4 hours south). Respect the Surfers and stay away from the popular breaks. Lots of Ocean for us and only a few waves for them...and your a visitor. All the kiters I met were friendly. Watch out for the "Pointers"..Great Whites are common in some spots.

If you can bring two kites a medium and a small. In summer we regularly get winds to around 25kn. At the moment it is still a bit frontal which is different from previous years. The wind chill is still high as well.

If you plan to go north of Perth I would not bother with a medium kite as it is mostly WINDY. Especially if you go to places like Denham or Exmouth. But even Lancelin is very windy.

I'm from New Caledonia and will come to WA at the end of May for nearly 2 weeks.
I know there are many good surf spots. Are there also some good flat ones ?
What size would you suggest me to take. I have a Rhino 6 9m2 and a F-one Bandit 11m2.
Is the wind strong at this period of the year ?

May is not the best time to kite in Perth. Most of the winter you will kite in the frontal winds. Which you need to be very careful of. They change direction and strength in a mater of seconds. Further up the coast may be better conditions but still not the thermal winds we have in summer.

When you say further up the coast, which town would you recommend ?
WA is so big !

I think you will at least go up to Geraldton and the coral coast. There is a few good spots around there.

Please do a bit more research as I didn't visit these places in that time of year.
