Sardinia - Porto Pollo vs. Sardinia's south west coast

Postby alexKSSardinia » Sun Oct 07, 2007 12:30 pm

Hi friends
my name is Alessandro and I live in sardinia.
I saw that many web site or forum reccomend for a kite vacation in Sardinia only porto pollo on the north east shore.
I and my friends know many spots in sardinia and porto pollo isn't the most amazing.
I reccomend the west coast from Castel Sardo (NW) to Chia (SW). there are many spot for hard waveriding (la ciaccia, oristano and chia zone.. waves about +3mt with 5bft wind) and many other for free-style

You can compare the wind stats of windguru about different sardinian spot:
just as example in the period jen-aug 2007
Porto Botte (SW coast): 136 windy days with 4bft or more--57%
Porto Pollo (NE coast): 83 wind days with 4bft or more--35%

I believe that cold be better to stay on south west coast..rather than north west shore..
because you can kite also with southern winds (SE, SW) that are very frequent during spring or easter time.
a huge hug...
alessandro

Porto Pollo is nice, but I agree and think there is better kiting to be had in Chia. Porto Pollo is a little more remote than Chia - plus the beach is nicer at Chia. Even if you go south to Cagliari, there are many kiteboarders out and there are good waves to be had. The wind in Sardinia is amazing.

hi trandg
where do you kite in sardinia? just Chia?
ave you been in south west coast? Funtanamare, S.Antioco, Porto Botte, Scivu or Oristano.
I believe that Chia is one of the more beautiful beach of sardinia.
with southern wind it's amazing... but take care...the mistral (NW) is more frequent than southern winds. Do you plan to comeagain in sardinia for kiting?
a huge hug
alessandro
