Los Roques, venezuela

Postby Michell K » Sun Mar 26, 2006 9:03 pm

Does anybody have a description of Los Roques?
There is a little on Kitebeaches.com, but does anybody know if theres a center, or rescue boat in the off shore areas, accomodations, Contact person and so on...
Windspeeds? Gusty or clean?
Also, is there a specific island which is good to choose?

Hey Michell,

I have been there for 5 days combining with El Yaque early february '05.
Wind was light (4 days with 20m)
Accomodation is on the main island. Very expensive.
Everyday you take a boat to small islands. There is a windsurfing school on one island (not far from the main island). The school is run by a guy who also kites I think. Anyway, his mother and brother (the brother kites for sure) run a Poussada called "El Canto de la Ballena". Nice people, excellent food (local fishes but with indian taste).
Maybe you could do a downwind with the son if you are lucky. We didn't because lack of wind...
The place is really amazing but quite expensive (100+ USD a night).

Wind was light, steady, and usually off shore with no backup... but there are a lot of spots, lagoons,...

Tip: if you come from Margarita you better limit your quiver and pack it in different small packages as the plane can be very small (we had to unpack and wait for 1 day to have everything in Los Roques... but we had a big plane for the return)

Just search the forum for additional info or google

Cheers

Frank
