Kite and live

Postby kite1498 » Mon Feb 04, 2008 9:32 am

I'm trying to find a place that I can kite and live. I can work from my laptop pretty much from anywhere as long as the internet connection is pretty solid.

I've spent a lot of time kiting in cumbuco and other places that are exceptional for kiting, but thats about it, they have nothing else to offer. These places are great fun for a month or two, but then they get tiring.

Any suggestions for spots that offer a life outside of kiting, but have year round wind conditions and lots of sun?

I'm open to pretty much anywhere.

Thanks,
op

If I could work from "pretty much anywhere" I think I'd pretty much live everywhere. A couple months here, a couple there ect...But if you need a steady dose of civilization (city livin') I suppose San Franny would be a very viable option. The water's a bit chilly but it doesn't get much more metropolitan than that. Just one of many, many options.

Well I would say that Cabarete may meet your needs.

There all lots of people who live in Cabarete full-time that work from their laptop and internet connection. The best internet connection you can get is about 1.5mb down and .7mb up which is fine no matter what you do unless you transfer serious file sizes back and forth between your computer and server. The wind is pretty much year round (not everyday but enough). It has a large expat community and has a busy night life. If you need the big city life then the major cities of the DR are not that far away. If you don't need to "kite everyday" you can always make your home anywhere on the island and have wind a short drive away.

If you have any other questions about life in Cabarete or DR in general just let me know.

Cheers,
V

Toby, in answer to your question:

1) Fast Dedicated internet:
2) Available supplies and resources for work (I won't get into details, but I can tell you Fortaleza would be pretty llimited.
3) Various activities available (I like to do everything from rock climb to scuba dive to playing soccer)
4) Good night life.
5) Overall a beautiful place. Fortaleza was, in my opinion, not a very attractive city.

Cabarete is definitely an option. Its also not too far from NY which is good for me. Other places i've been looking at are Perth, Tarifa, Israel (If only better wind!), florianopolis, and capetown.

I wish there was one place that was perfect, but i don't know if it exists.

well, then you already have a selection!

Perth, Tarifa, Israel (If only better wind!), florianopolis, and capetown.

What about Miami or SF area? Hawaii? Rio?

If warm water year round is needed, then it can only be Pert or Israel (red sea).

But why stay at the same place? They all have their season...

Because i've done that. II've been to random places three months at a time (not necessarily to kite), and I think its time to fixate myself to one place for a longer period of time.

I would wager he is in IT?!?! Am I right? I work in IT, and pretty much can do my job from anywhere as well. I am currently in Canada, but may have an opportunity to move to our Brisbane office for a while. We also have an office in Perth, but the have all the guys they need. Is there any good Kiting on the east coast of Auz?
