Hello. I am thinking of going to kite board for two last weeks of May.
My instructor advised me to go to Cumbuco, Brazil.
I checked the prices, and I guess paying 850usd just for the flight is too much.
May be I can go somewhere closer to US cheaper?
How is Puerto Rico kite-boarding? Tickets are just 200usd (RT) Surfing area there is right in the capital San Juan, so may be I can find some cheap accommodation there?
What about Dominican Republic? Cabarete? Tickets are 400usd, but may be it will be much cheaper to stay there? Rooms for 33usd (Ali's Surf Camp) is considered the cheapest opportunity there?
What are other destinations for this period of year? Considering air ticket price, easiness to get to the place (within 1-2 hours from the airport), budget accommodation, good food, and very important, nice atmosphere with cool people.
Consider the Caribbean...it's not as far as Brazil, flights are less expensive and there's fantastic spots to kite with the wind blowing around 15 knots or more most of the time.

you can never go wrong with Cabarete. This has been an epic year for wind, and there is tons to do. Direct flights from NYC can be had for $300 return (or less!) on Jetblue, continental and American.
