Long trip Jan-Feb: Best Destination?

Postby Daniel Blomqvist » Fri Dec 26, 2008 9:48 pm

Hi,

I'm planning a 5-6 week trip, starting early Jan. Where should I go?

Preferences:

- Good wind
- Warm water: shortie or no wetsuit
- Waves (mid-size)
- Low living costs
- Personal safety, low crime
- Golf, women*, other recreation

Some ideas:

- South Africa: water temp?
- Caribbean: DR?
- Brazil
- Capo Verde
- other? Central/South America?

I'm probably traveling solo, so it's good if there's cool people to hang with. Anyone else with similar plans?

I have been to Caribbean (Antigua, St Croix). Loved it, but payed about $100 per night for accommodation. Perhaps DR is cheaper? Island hopping would be cool.

This is a rare opportunity for a longer trip, so any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

gosh 6 whole weeks to spend :-? , I presume you are an intermediate kiter and want to kite every day. If I had your 6 weeks I would consider 2 ways:
A)). start in Cumbuco (Brazil) because there still is some wind for the 1st two weeks of January, then up to Coche or El Yaque (Venezuela: do not forget Los Roques) for 1 week, then go to Bonaire and Aruba for 1,5 week, and (if you still have money left) then spend your last week in Sal (Cabo Verde) be aware that this spot has no night life + water is a bit cold.
B)). start in Vietnam and stay there for at least 3/4 weeks (I am told that its really cool there, ve seen the movies of kitespots, (can give you a link of kiting + ladies), then go to South Africa (you will be needing a wet suit because the water is cold).
If accomodation is expensive and you have a free mind why don't you join www.couchsurfing.com, you meet a lot of very nice locals and improve the quality of your holiday (= my point of view :thumb: )

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

Looks like I will be (starting) in Cumbuco, Brazil.

SA is out, because it's too cold in the water.

Best,

Daniel
