Looking to go kiting in August. My wife is fairly new to the sport, so we prefer medium winds and flatter water. Considering Brazil, but most of their sites indicate 20 to 30 knots. Any suggestions would be welcome. Bonaire is a possibility, but very expensive accomodations. We are based in Canada. Thanks, Brian

South Padre island might be a good choice in August. It will blow an average of 15-18 knots although there might be days of dead calm.........or hurricanes. Maybe Hatteras.

Thanks, Windguy.
We are going to Hatteras for two weeks in July.
Padre is also a possibility for August.
Brazil might be too strong of wind for my wife who is just on board starts.

I live in Corpus and August was pretty good last summer. It was blowing 15-20 around 3-5 days a week. It does depend on the year though. August can also be shut down especially if there is a hurricane in the gulf.

SPI is probably one of the very best places to learn in the US. But the time to come is in November or in Spring. Our summer problem is there is no reliable public water access on the west side of the bay where the thermals are. There's a good chance I'll be hanging out in Corpus this August. Dolly shut us down bad in the second half of August due to flooding and lack of wind.

I've heard good things about kiting out that way. Problem is the wind or lack of it at that time of the year. Always seems that you are trying to catch up to where the winds are. We chased the winds around Thailand and it was also hit and miss. Boracay and Egypt, however, was excellent. Ya never know!!

I also think Texas and Hatteras are nice options.

If you wan it different, than Brazil for sure is a good time to hit.

Many flat water lagoons and spots, and not o many people, but good winds.

Just check on www.kitebeaches.com. Anywhere from Recife to Jericoacoara will do, but the further north from Fortaleza, the stronger the winds.

South of Portugal (Tavira). 15 knots every afternoon and a lot of huge beaches.
