Where to stay in Fleixeras or Guajiru?

Postby Philippino » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:50 pm

Hi! We are in Paracuru now and going to move to Fleixeiras or Guajuru? Does anybody know where to stay there? We are looking for pousada on the beach with kitestation nearby. Or may be somebody know some useful links about Fleixeiras?

I would say Guarjiru probably. You can read some reviews about it- windy but sometimes chop +gusty depending the tide. Flexaires is often gusty, but there is a Vela school there with launch site that can offer advice. Don't think there are any links for Flex as the town is tiny and undeveloped and not very targeted at kitesurfers. You can always just stop there for a day and then keep driving North. There is a hotel on the beach owned by a guy named Orleans that is reasonable and a good spot (ask in town, everyone knows his place as he's lived there forever). But for kitesurfing - Guarjiru is probably a bit better.
Consider Prea too although Paracuru is better than all mentioned some would argue.

just drive there and see what is available.

Flexeiras has a pousada and station right at the beginning of the village.
You can also rent a house or so.

Guajiru has a very nice hotel (Rede Resort), but it is not "cheap", (about 50 Euro a night or so).

Rede isn't your only choice. Check out Surf Village just next to it. Kite Centre with accommodation base - http://www.surf-village.pl/?sf_culture=en
We will be in Guajiru just in 9 days. Can't wait!!!

And what about Ilha do Guajuru? We are just looking for something interesting between
Paracuru and Jeri which is really worth to visit. Also we would like to find accomodation
for 50-80 real (not very expensive).

I think opinions are really devided on that subject.
I know Toby likes Ilha do Guajuru (which by the way it's made up name and locals have no idea where it is!), but I wouldn't go back - not a chance!
Had a really horrible experience there staying 4 days... no fresh water, hardly any electricity, no food in "restaurants" to feed group of 8 people. Choppy water, wind quite gusty for Brazil, strong tidal currents, razor sharp shells slicing feet in half! TG we had a fully equipped doctor with us ;-)
I simply couldn't wait to get ou of there!

But to be fair this place is very pretty and it's remote so no so many people on the water.
It was lovely to watch donkeys walking up and down on the beach every morning.

We also rented wooden houses directly on the beach from Gigi - very expensive option (for Brazil) but they were quite charming.

I probably would recommend to go there even just to check it out and make your own opinion about Ilha do Guajiru, but do not book for any longer than one night!

Thank you very much. As longer we stay in Paracuru as more we think to stay here. :)

Ilha do Guajiru has basic pousadas for not much money. Nice to stay directly at the water...you don't have that at the Paracuru main kite beaches.

I wonder about the water. Worked fine for me. And there can be a power loss anywhere in Brazil.

Sharp shells: yes, have shoes if you are learning, I never had a problem so far.
Gusty winds: wind is gustier there...go to secret spot or ride at river mouth for smooth winds. I don't have any problems with the wind there, always had nice sessions.
Currents: never a problem for me.

But, everyone should check it out themselves and see if they like it.

I always had fun there. Check it out and see if you like it or hate it. At least another choice along the coast!

Praia da Barra - only at high tide.

Rede beach in Guajiru - very nice place and a reasonable price for the quality they offer. also the conditions are ok.

Flexeiras - nice to kite but of course don´t start directly at the kitestation in the beginning because of the wind shadow. 200m downwind is better.
there are several options of accomodation in Flexeiras and there is something for every wallet.
For sure you will like one of the best restaurants all along Ceara - Il Pevero - don´t miss that. Mare Alta has very good seafood as well.....
