Dakhla

Postby AmericanRonin » Tue Sep 15, 2009 2:44 am

Can anybody tell me why it's seemingly impossible to find any flights into Dakhla's airport from the U.S. Is there some trick to this like Fly to a different city and then take a Moroccan airline to Dakhla? I can't seem to get anything from the U.S. straight to VIL though. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

Dahkla is way to small for an US airline to fly directly. I think no European airlines flies as well.

So, fly to Rabat and from there with a Moroccan airline.

A little tip to save a bit when you want to travel to Dakhla, it worth the shot to take two separate tickets: first one to Casablanca (there are direct flights NY-Casa) and then a Casablanca - Dakhla. If you go the website of Royal Air Maroc, you can book online the Casa - Dakhla round trip. It saved me a good 25% on the local flight.
Some guys go first to Canari Islands and then to Dakhla; nice kite tour but never done it myself.

The best season for dakhla is from april to september, with good winds almost guaranteed every day. The winds are usually lighter in the mornings, and become stronger in the afternoon (usually 18-30 knots). The wind is always stronger in the lagoon than on the ocean beaches.

Winter can be windy too, but there is a chance you spend a few days without riding at all... plus the weather and water are a little bit colder.

Hi!
I just wonder what are the conditions in Dakhla for kiting in next month (wind rate, water temperature, etc).
Is it worth visiting in this period? If so - which place is the best in Marocco?

Would appreciate your help :D
