... last week of March, first week of April.
The wife's found an apartment to rent for a week or something but the important thing is it's right next to a beach where people kitesurf
that's the facts as I know them ...
Kitoons.com seems to think the place is good ... I'm still a n00b though - good kite skills cos of landboarding but only just up and riding on the water - am I going to get spanked if I try to go it alone there?
PS. anyone who'll be there, I might buy you a beer

Is this Huahin proper or Pak Nam Pram? If the latter, you'll be fine. Was there in January, no wind except for 1 day for about two hours, and I am also a beginner... and it's pretty flat and nice.

That name sounds familiar ... we're looking at apartments somewhere near Chiva Som and the Regency Hyatt. I'm sure though that a taxi can take us to a good spot
Ooh reminds me, better check the airline limits

As a beginner you will be fine in either Hua Hin or Pranburi. In both cases we are talking about a very long, sandy beach with mostly side-shore winds (from around 2pm to sunset on most days in March and April) and no dangerous obstructions in the water except for the occasional small fishing boat a few hundred meters offshore. At low tide the beach is very wide and even at high tide the beach is considerably wider than in e.g., Boracay or Mui Ne.
If you will be staying in Hua Hin proper, most kiting is done on the beach off the odd-numbered Sois 67 through 83 (though the beach extends much further in both directions, and yes, you can kite right in front of Hyatt Regency if you want to). However, Hua Hin is not a big town so it really does not matter much where you stay. If you want to stay in the very town center which is about 3/4 mile from the kite beach, then simply leave your kite gear with one of the beachside kite shops (personally I would recommend Yo's and Sam's place at Soi 83). The just rent a scooter (or take moped taxis) to get down to the beach whenever you feel like kiting.
And yes, as Toby said, the Kiteboard Tour Asia will have an event in Pranburi from March 25-28...

Pranburi or Hua Hin?
KTA in Pranburi 25th-29th
PKRA in Hua Hin 15th-20th
See you there
Alex
It's already good now (ridable every day, size 8-12 most days). Better expected in March.
Pranburi is only 25 km South of Hua Hin. Nice downwinder BTW.

Coke is strong stuff; you're not supposed to drink it straight here; you dilute it with Sang Som
