Join a North East Brazil downwinder trip Mid-Aug-Oct 2010?

Hi,

We are an easygoing kitesurfing couple (33 & 36 yrs old) looking for 2-4 other kiters who want to share experiences, costs and 4WD rental in order to do a relaxed downwinder in North East Brazil from Cumbuco - Paracuru - Ilha de Guajiro - Prea (Jericoacoara) - and possibly carrying onto Luis Carriea or even Sao Luis.

We are up for it anytime from Mid-August until end of September 2010. It won´t take less than 10 days if alternate days are taken for downwinders and alternate days are for staying and riding locally; i.e 2 nights at 5 destinations.

Kiting experience...able to self rescue, go up wind, go happily downwind for long stretches and kite for 5-6 hours on some days might be neccessary!

The main idea is to rent a 4WD and self drive which is pretty expensive but doubly so when one factors in a driver and their costs which is what we will do only if we absolutely have to. If we self drive then we could all take turns in driving onto the next place, having a session, sorting out the hotel and awaiting the downwinders (Caipirinhas at the ready?!).

If anyone is interested give me a shout.

Cheers,

J & C

Update of Trip from the Original Author

Hi,

If anyone is interested in this downwinder...nows your chance. You can also email me at jimmy_barnett@yahoo.com

We are back again in Cumbuco after 3 weeks in the dusty interior and we are getting stuck into planning this downwinder. We will get a 4x4 this week coming up (16th-21st August) and are heading into Fortaleza to inspect the options this Monday the 16th of August.

Just approximate at the moment but its looking to be no more than R$65 per head per day for just the 4x4 action, not including diesel/ oil. Less with more numbers.

It might be that its not neccessary for all or any of you to do the full downwinder journey as my better half may well be driving support between the various destinations and kiting on arrival...it should save some leg strength!

Anyhow its great to be back in Cumbuco and so far the winds seemed only to have strengthened.

We were very happy to return to our friendly Pousada: ´´Tropical Winds´´ http://www.kitersparadise-cumbuco.com/en/pousada.php which is run by the lovely Manifred (Manny). We certainly recommend this place for an affordable place with super breakfasts, swimming pool, full kite store and rental and its 1 minute hobbling distance from the beach (more peaceful for sleeping) and the same for sand dunes at the back for your sunset soul searching session after a hard afternoons kiting the waters.

See you out there.

Zach, hope you´re having a good time, now you know where we are!

J
