Los Roques Questions

Postby BrianMaiden » Tue Oct 05, 2010 8:34 am

Hi, Hoping to go to Los Roques over xmas and new year for 3 weeks but have some questions:

1. Will it be windy?
2. Is it possible to live and stay somewhere on a very low budget? How much should i budget for per day?
3. Is it easy to get from Caracas to Los Roques?
4. Much to do for a non-kiter?
5. Can anyone recommend a decent budget guest house?

I was there a coupke years ago, but it might help you...

1. probably everyday, for a 9 - 12 kite
2. There is an island were you can camp, but it is not in the main island and there is not much around...
3. Yes, two airlines... 30 min flight
4. Diving is also great, but thats it...
5. I stayed at dona carmen which was OK and la cigalla which was great but more expensive (USD 60 per day with breakfast and dinner for dona carmem and USD 100 per day in la cigalla with a really great diner, a lunch box to bring to the beach and boat to the nearby islands)

kitesurf is banned from the main island, so you must take a boat to kite (from 10 min ride). There are hundreads of small islands to choose from... the place is amazing!

i was there jan last year.
used my 12m mostly, 10m sometimes.
flights from caracas and margarita island
you can camp on the main island, or any island for that mater... for free, just bring a tent
on the main island there are cheapy cheapy places cant remember exactly but id say around us40
each day meet up with other kitesurfers, and get a motorboat to drop yo of at one of the many little sand islands, in the afternoon they pick u up.... or u can camp like i did for afew nights.
enyoy. its an amazing place
