Do I take a surfboard to Mui Ne?

Postby BrianMaiden » Tue Oct 12, 2010 1:40 pm

Going to Mui Ne over Xmas and New year and wondered whether the conditions would suit a Surfboard for kiting as well as a twin tip.

I've heard the swell gets quite big there but from what i've seen researching images on the net the surf doesn't look great just a bit choppy.

Coming from England we have to take 3 flights and a train to get there so i don't really want to take kit i want use.

Any advice much appreciated.

Oh, and if anyone knows somewhere decent (ideally budget) to stay right on the beach i'd be very grateful. Thanks

If u gonna stay and ride only in Mui Ne bay - TT is quite enough, only killing shorebreak and chop there. But if you move just 10km away you'll find nice wavespot (onshore) - there you'll prefer surfboard for sure.
Also downwinders from Mui Ne to Phan Thiet are good, aprox 12km or bit more - with surfboard you'll have much more fun of them
There are lots of places to stay directly on the kitebeach - prices starts at aprox $15 (last year info - but this season gonna be the same) for simple double room. But on NY holidays it may be difficult to find ANY accommodation... Better book before! My favorite hotel there is Hong Di - cheepest one in this category
